I only had about four seconds to catch this before the train swept it away.⁣⁣That’s kind of how grace works though. It doesn’t wait for you to be ready. It shows up in the unexpected, like in the window for five seconds whether you are paying attention or not.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣#catholiccreative #fineartphotography #lourdes #pilgrimage #contemplativephotography by @nikguiney

I’ve been exploring experienced belonging for much of the summer, and now I turn to inherited belonging, when a place claims you before you arrive. Le Mans is a place that meant nothing to me years ago, but as a Holy Cross religious these simple streets are worth everything. The Gothic towers of St. Julien, the light through the stained glass of Notre Dame de Sainte Croix where Basil Moreau is buried, the quiet of the French countryside. A rootedness that comes not from time spent here but from the community that helped form me.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣#catholiccreatives #catholicphotography #lemans #belonging #france by @nikguiney

Episode 4 of Beyond the Frame: We’ve always heard “Photos don’t do it justice” and oftentimes that’s true.⁣⁣This is from the candlelight procession at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France. One of the most significant pilgrimage sites in the world. ⁣⁣I was just one of many pilgrims. Candles everywhere, singing all around, the camera couldn’t hold all of it, but I’m glad it could capture some. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣#lourdes #beyondtheframe #fi̇neartphotography #catholiccreatives #catholicpriest by @nikguiney

There’s something about a static shot that forces stillness. I set up, I wait, and sometimes I get what I came for. Other times the moment finds me instead.⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣#cinematic #catholiccreative #travel #filmmaking by @nikguiney

To put it simply, I saw God’s glory in the prayer, the penance, and the community. God’s glory may not always be loud, but it’s felt everywhere. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣#lourdes #catholiccreatives #catholic #pilgrim #catholicpriest by @nikguiney

40 hours in Lourdes. Which isn’t long by any stretch, but some places don’t ask for your time, they ask for your attention. There’s a stillness here that has nothing to do with how long you stay, and everything to do with how many people have stood in the same spot, desiring time of solitude. Time spent in prayer with Our Lady, time given to penance and community. It really exhibits how a place can hold meaning to so many before you even arrive, completely independent of who we are. We just pass through it briefly, surrounded by others, drawn to the same peaceful, prayerful place. Grateful for even this small amount of time here, in prayer and pilgrimage. 🙏 🕊️⁣⁣⁣⁣#lourdes #catholic #catholicpriest #pilgrim #pilgrimage by @nikguiney

Jesus spent a lot of time in the mountains and being here makes that come to life in a real way. You can tell what a place means to people even without ever asking them. I saw this all summer in the priorities of those here. I heard people laughing from my porch late into the night and saw them prayerful early in the morning at Mass. Knowing I am leaving this place I love is sad, but when we truly belong to a place we look forward to returning, to see its changes and growth and to be welcomed home. by @nikguiney
