CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:
Laureates Science Innovation and Education Initiative - Ebonyi Laureates × Kachem Young Initiative hosts our pilot cohort of an Academic Mentorship Programme.

Ebonyi State is largely rural. Access to quality education, digital infrastructure, and global academic exposure remains limited for many of our young people.

📊 Why this matters:
According to national and global education indicators, Nigeria’s tertiary education enrollment rate is below 15%, far behind the global average of over 40%. States with predominantly rural populations—including Ebonyi—remain among the most affected, with limited access to mentorship, research exposure, and competitive academic pipelines.

Beyond statistics, many Ebonyi youths carry an unfair burden: their excellence is often doubted, their intellect questioned, and their origin used, consciously or unconsciously, as a measure of limitation. Yet, excellence exists here. Brilliance exists here. What is missing is structured access, exposure, and belief-backed guidance.

That is why we launched the Ebonyi Laureates × Kachem Young Initiative Academic Mentorship Programme.

🎯 About the Programme
This first-ever cohort is designed to connect ambitious Ebonyi youths (18+) with seasoned academics, scholars, and professionals [from Ebonyi and beyond] who understand both the system and the barriers. This is about bridging gaps, correcting narratives, and equipping a generation to compete [globally and confidently].

👩🏽‍🎓👨🏽‍🎓 Who Should Apply

Young Ebonyians who want to:
1. Win competitive local & international scholarships
2. Improve their CGPA and academic direction
3. Secure Master’s or PhD admissions
5. Build confidence and clarity as academic leaders

🎓 What Mentees Will Gain:
1. Proven strategies for scholarships and graduate school applications
2. Guidance on research, academic writing & career planning
3. Access to accomplished academics and professional networks
4. Personal development support: confidence, resilience & communication
5. A structured, monitored mentorship journey tailored to individual goals.

Our short film in partnership with Nkwa Films, documenting the realities of rural women in conflict communities in Ebonyi State where we work.

While the global community pride in the many work done to accelerate inclusion, equality, and eliminate GBV, in this video lie the unimaginable realities of many Ebonyi women in rural communities (Nigeria).

Kachem young initiative is currently working in this community to help them cushion the effect of many years of conflict by providing a safe home, access to inclusive Education, and economic empowerment to these women.
You can support our work in this community. Click to see how.

It was an honor to be part of the 2023 gathering of Black “feminists” at the Black Critical Media Literacy Conference in Senegal 🇸🇳

Among many global issues that affect African women in Africa and the Diaspora, we discussed leveraging Global Citizenship to address trends that impede Literacy, equal participation in economic development, and social justice for women. The highlight of this conference, for me, includes meeting and sharing space with amazing Thought Leaders who such as Film Maker @ebony_gilbert_one, the phenomenal maternal health advocate and @peacecorps fellow & personnel @annaem.e, a Zimbabwean activist working to end Human Trafficking Tanaka Muparadzi, and to meet again the Phenomenal Founder of of @blackcriticalmedialiteracy Dr. Amina Humphrey.

Black Critical Media Literacy is for Global #awareness #advocacy and #action !!!

#blackandbold #feminism that calls for African solutions to African challenges. by @nikkymelva
