Behind every meaningful project, there is a group of dedicated people who share the same passion and vision.

I couldn’t be more grateful to work alongside Nikola Negorod @nikolanegorod , who brought the soundscape of "Liquid Blue. Form Becoming Vibration". His artistic sensitivity and technical mastery transformed liquid matter into pure acoustic vibration.

Meet Nikola Negorod
Based in Riga, Latvia, Nikola is a music producer working across ambient, techno, and industrial soundscapes.

His approach centers on live creation and raw process: using modular synthesizers, analog gear, and digital technology, he treats sound systems as living, breathing environments. by @nikolanegorod

“THE SEA IS CLOSER THAN YOU SEE” in Matera!

I am thrilled to participate with my sound installation "Liquid Blue. Form Becoming Vibration" in the group exhibition “THE SEA IS CLOSER THAN YOU SEE”, curated by @chiaracanaliart in collaboration with @simonaspinella .

Presented as part of the TERRE IMMERSE program for Matera, Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2026, my work is hosted at MUSMA (Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Matera) @matera2019

Created in collaboration with Latvian sound designer @nikolanegorod and Italian companies @glauksound and @gobbettoresine , Liquid Blue explores how liquid matter transforms into physical vibration and acoustic waves within Matera's iconic stone setting.

I am also deeply honored that the initiative has received the institutional patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Italy.

Dive into a conversation with our Sound Designer Niko.

W-team: How do you choose which sounds to use for different moments?

Nikola: First and foremost, sound has to match what it represents. You can’t use something melancholic or eerie for a win. In our industry, we mostly focus on positive moments, such as wins, multipliers, and bonus events, often with multiple tiers depending on the scale.
When creating these sounds, it’s important to consider musical harmony and how notes work together. Each chord carries a different emotional tone. There are also certain instruments whose timbre naturally evokes specific emotions. The right combination of these elements leads to the desired result.
For more neutral actions like UI sounds like clicks, pop-ups, and counters, I stay within the boundaries defined by the game’s theme and origin. For example, I wouldn’t use traditional Asian instruments in a modern cabaret-style game. A key challenge is to make the sound recognizable while avoiding what has already been done on the market.

W-team: Do you experiment with non-traditional sound sources?

Nikola: Yes, absolutely. I actively record real-life sounds to bring authenticity — cards, chips, coins, and so on. We also create voice-overs in multiple languages, working with both colleagues and professional artists.

W-team: What about AI in sound design?

Nikola: The technology has advanced significantly and is very convenient to use. But do I use AI in my work for the company? Probably more no than yes. You’re essentially handing over the most interesting and creative part of the process, where you can express your skill and soul, to a machine, which, to be fair, can do it quite well. But personally, I prefer to shear the sheep, brush the wool, spin the yarn, and knit the product myself rather than just going out and buying it.
That said, I’ve experimented with AI as part of the process, especially in audio work. While it can produce solid results, I found that combining recorded sounds with generated ones creates a much stronger sense of uniqueness and character, something that’s particularly important for our company. by @nikolanegorod
