Hey authors. If you have ever wondered what a professional beta reader actually does and whether you need one, this post is for you.

I have been beta reading for 9 years. I read anywhere between 150 to 300 books a year. And I never use AI. My feedback is my instinctive journey through your book from a real reader’s point of view.

No shortcuts here. Just thoughtful editing, start to finish

This is what my screen actually looks like when I’m deep in an edit.

Chicago Manual of Style open.
Merriam-Webster open.
And a full tracked edit running alongside.

I don’t rush through books.
I read every sentence more than once—usually 3 times.
The last time, I read it out loud.

I stop and research.
I make sure your voice stays intact, while cleaning up everything that could distract a reader.

There’s no AI. No shortcut.
Just thoughtful, line-by-line editing that respects the story you’re telling.

If you’re working on your book, comment BookEdit and I’ll send you my full editing process.

Follow @nilareadsandedits for honest editing support that helps you finish your manuscript with clarity and care.

I couldn’t resist a romance when Author Louise Bay DMed me and left a warm reply at my refusal to be her ARC reader.

Her kindness made me download one of her books.

I am only reading Kindle Unlimited books for this month so if you have a book that falls under one of these genres, let me know

• Contemporary small town romance. Bonus if the story has a child or a fur baby

• Women’s Fiction. Bonus if it has a strong main character who inspires me to hope

• Urban Fantasy. Bonus if it has a kicka$$ FMC along with magic and knives and a h0t MMC

• Contemporary Romance. Bonus if it has paranormal elements. Or soulmate love. Strong characters. Steam. Humorous banter. He falls first and hard. Swear words. She makes him work for her love.

• Psychic FMC with ghosts. Bonus if it has thrills and frills and mystery and romance

My beta reading and editing projects already have swoony romances, high fantasy, folklore fantasy, dark romance, and psychological thriller.

It looks like I am all set for the BER months.

#qotd - What does your kindle feed look like? Bonus if you reply with an added screenshot too

I always tell my authors - it’s always better a beta reader critiques your book rather than getting negative reviews later.

Let’s work together and make your book the best version of itself.

I am just an email away. Beta reading link in bio

I thought Mr. & Mrs. would be a banger of a book that would pull me out of the reading slump.

The book had a terrific premise and the first few chapters really blew me away. I was completely intrigued and hooked to the story.

A mother working in the hospital.  A cop father. A son who was being pulled into the manosphere world. And a daughter who was killed in their own home with the father handcuffed to the radiator.

Who was the killer now?

So far so good.

I was shocked when the mid chunk of chapters only had this couple accusing each other of having an affair with another couple who was their best friends for the past 20 years.

The whole writing felt quite icky. Even the daughter of the other couple hit on the main character. Sheesh.

This to and fro accusations kept happening constantly until the last few chapters. By then the book had fallen flat.

The excitement was gone. I finished the book only because I couldn’t believe what I was reading.

Did I guess the killer? Of course, it was so easy. There were only 4 characters remaining, so one was conveniently chosen to be the killer. Boredom unlimited

How many stars do you think I should give for this book?

Let me know in comments.

Make your book the best version of itself with the help of a sincere beta reader and editor. AKA ME.

In the interim, build your online presence, spending just an hour each day with 1 impactful task.

Small consistent actions will help you get the connection with readers, without the burnout

Sometimes books give you the best solution to a problem you may not know how to solve

I have been struggling with my grief with good days and more of bad days. And this quote told me try again

Sometimes you just have to have courage in your ability to right your wrongs and make things right

There are many wrongs that I don’t know how to make it right, but I do know that I have to find the courage to live through the day in the best way possible

#qotd - Has any book quote touched your heart and helped you find a solution or peace?

What are you reading?

I have been working and listening to a lot of audiobooks last few months.

And I wanted to get back to my love of reading physical books

So I played hooky and drove to a bookstore to treat myself.

My love language = books.

(And diamonds. But books were slightly more affordable 😉)

And this is what I did for the rest of the day

Browsed the store for 3 hours
Added a few books to my pile
Started 1 book right in the bookstore
Added more books
Checked my credit card balance
Removed some books
Made a note to buy them next time
Bought the remaining books
Maxed out my credit card
Drove home
Ordered dinner and dessert
Read more of the book
Slept peacefully with a smile on my face

Ah my precious. My books

What would you do on the day you played hooky from work? What’s your love language?

I have not been taking care of myself and I want to start now. What’s your self care routine?

Let me know in comments.

Which among these would capture your interest and make you read this book?

BEACH THRILLER by Jamie Day

For me, it is “secrets” and “small town setting”

And of course the beach vibe of the cover.
