Here is my interview with the legendary icons @flytetymejam & @flytetymelewis.

Yeah… let me say that again.
The one and only…

JIMMY JAM & TERRY LEWIS!

Two of the most successful and influential music producers of ALL TIME.

They are official @rockhall inductees.
5-time @grammys award winners and the architects behind records that became the soundtrack to generations!

Producing hits for @janetjackson, @michaeljackson, @prince, @morris_day_and_the_time, @newedition, @boyziimen, @mariahcarey, @usher, @therealmaryjblige, @officialalexanderoneal, @thesoundsofblackness and the list goes ON.

I interviewed them at the @mnstatefair grounds, then we took a stroll through the legendary @theurbanlight in St. Paul, where they connected with its founder, Tim Wilson.

In my interview, we talk about the early days of “The Time,” the birth of the Minneapolis Sound in the ’80s, their amazing run in the ’90s, and their journey to becoming one of the greatest songwriting and production teams music has ever seen.

And now, after more than four decades of making history around the world, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are bringing that history back HOME!

On Saturday, August 29, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis take over the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand for their “Made in Minnesota: The Homecoming” concert!

And they’re bringing an ALL-STAR lineup home with them, including:

@realjohnnygill22, @officialbellbivdevoe, @themorrisday & @iamjeromebenton of “The Time,” @yolandaadams, @iamchantemoore, @stokleyofficial, @annnesby & @thesoundsofblackness, @realrubenstuddard AND MORE!

40+ years of Minnesota music history.
40+ years of records that changed the culture.
One stage. One night. Back where it all started!

“Come Back to Me” by @janetjackson is my favorite R&B song of all time, and the melody at the beginning is my favorite melody ever. It sounds so heavenly and has played in my mind throughout my life.

The song was recorded right here in Minnesota at “Flyte Tyme Studios” for Janet’s iconic “Rhythm Nation 1814” album. The album went six-times platinum and produced seven Top 5 singles, including four No. 1 hits.

I’ve loved this song since I was a kid, and once I learned that the iconic @flytetymejam and @flytetymelewis produced it, I always wanted to ask them how they created that melody and the song.

Sitting across from them and actually getting to ask them about it was unbelievable. And Jimmy Jam’s answer? Man… it was profound. One of those answers that stays with you. Check it out!

Plus, see these two legends live at “Made in Minnesota: The Homecoming” on August 29 at the @mnstatefair! Featuring an all-star lineup including @realjohnnygill22, @officialbellbivdevoe, @morris_day_and_the_time with @iamjeromebenton, @iamchantemoore, @yolandaadams, @stokleyofficial, @annnesby w/ @thesoundsofblackness, @realrubenstuddard, @shaniceonline, @jordanknightofficiaal and more special guests! It is going to be phenomenal. Get your tickets TODAY!

Major salute to @djstageonessb for his continued dedication to preserving, documenting and celebrating the history and legacy of Twin Cities hip-hop! Here is a throwback to last years when I had the honor of being among those recognized during the “A Great Day In Hip-Hop” event at the @minnesotahistorycenter. Every year this is a special event.

This Sunday, DJ Stage One continues that tradition with a sold-out event, dedicating this year’s recognition to the women who have helped shape the history, culture and legacy of Twin Cities hip-hop. Much respect to all the women being honored this year and to DJ Stage One for his commitment to recognizing the individuals who have contributed so much to our hip-hop community! 🙏🏾
