🏆 Asian Football Awards 2026 | Coach of the Year

Incredibly proud to be named Coach of the Year at the Asian Football Awards 2026.

The award recognises impact through development, leadership, education and mentoring, which makes it particularly meaningful given my work is now primarily focused on developing coaches, alongside continuing to coach.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout the journey, and congratulations to the two other coaches shortlisted alongside me.

And a huge thank you to the Asian Football Awards for a spectacular evening and for continuing to create a platform that celebrates and raises the visibility of South Asians across football. ❤️

A new season. A new opportunity to raise the bar.

Great to bring together our full-time and part-time academy coaches at Meadow Lane to kick off the 2026/27 season.

For me, this wasn’t just about delivering an induction. It was about creating alignment. Welcoming new staff, reconnecting with existing coaches and making sure everyone understands the direction we’re heading as one coaching team.

Over the summer we’ve continued to evolve our approach, refining our coach development framework, introducing a new coach handbook and strengthening the link between our coaching philosophy, session design and individual player development.

Culture isn’t built in one evening, but moments like these help create shared understanding, challenge thinking and build momentum for the season ahead.

Looking forward to seeing our coaches bring it all to life on the grass.

A privilege to represent Notts County as Head of Coach Development at the Coach Index Conference, alongside Jonathan Hunter-Barrett and Hannah Patterson.

One reflection I left with: if seeing someone from a South Asian background in a coach development leadership role helps just one aspiring coach believe there’s a place for them in the game, then that’s a positive step for football.

Coaching is about people. Keep learning. Keep growing. ⚽️

Advanced Youth Award ✅

A valuable opportunity to step back, challenge my thinking and refine how I support coaches and players within the academy environment.

My presentation focused on embedding Advanced Youth Award principles through an integrated coach and player development framework, exploring how learning, reflection and collaboration can shape long-term development.

Grateful for the challenge, the conversations and the opportunity to keep learning.

Co-Coaching CPD at the Notts County Academy this week using a live U15 v U16 in-house game.

The focus was simple:
Create alignment between coaches in a real match day environment.

Before KO, coaching staffs aligned on:
• One shared team focus
• Player ILPs
• Roles & responsibilities
• Intervention strategies
• Player engagement

What stood out was the direct impact alignment had on players.

When coaches were connected and clear, players played with more intent, clarity and confidence. When alignment drifted, hesitation appeared.

In the second half we manipulated the pitch constraints by removing the wide channels to magnify certain ILPs and challenge both players and coaches to adapt in real time.

A great example of ecological dynamics and Schon’s “reflection-in-action” coming to life within the game.

Most importantly, I loved seeing coaches enjoying the experience, being themselves and trusting the process.

Coaches who love what they do transmit that energy to players.

From Scotland, Academy Director Scott Allison (Dundee United) shares a practice focused on finishing the attack, breaking lines, and scoring goals.

With over 25 years across professional football in senior leadership and academy roles, Scott’s experience shows in the simplicity of this design. High repetition at the top end of the pitch, goalkeeper involvement, and channels that give players ownership rather than instruction.

I had the pleasure of working under Scott in the Youth Development Phase and always found him to be a top professional who values clarity and learning.

The message stays consistent: support each other, share thinking, and stay curious.

Today builds on planning, with advice around planning for yourself and for others. I had the privilege of being supported by Russell “Rusty” Earnshaw through the Premier League Future Coach Developer Programme. Rusty is the Director of The Magic Academy and has previously worked in elite performance support with England Rugby.

His ability to be genuine, innovative, and thoughtful in developing others is something I admire and aspire to.
