✨ Presentation ✨

I mejlet stod orden:
”Instagram is where it’s at.”

✨10/10✨

”Ten out of ten” is what I hope you will think when you try the new app my husband built on my mathematical work.

10 years ago I was preparing to knit a wedding cardigan to wear for our wedding.

I wanted to knit the Haukeli cardigan using the old charts, but wanted a fit and feel just for me: I wanted all the boarders to line up and be harmonious and I wanted a specific gauge so that those same boarders of the pattern were the right size for my body. Proportions and shape and all that.

To make this happen I did a lot of math.
Pages and pages and pages of calculations.

After the wedding and with the cardigan successfully completed, my husband asked if I could explain what all these calculations were - I did.

He said: I could build an app using this mathematical structure and then you can spend the time knitting instead - how would you like that?

He did and I have used it - for (almost) 10 years.

At first it was specifically to calculate decreases in round yokes for cardigans - as I always wanted that perfectly mirrored.

It has grown and evolved and is now ready for you!

On this 10th day of the 10th month - 10 years from when it started we present:

”Stitches: Knitting Calculator”

Read more about it: https://stitches.artsoftheinsane.com/ on its own website and download it straight from App Store

Much love,
Christine & Mikael

Mission accomplished 🎉

Here are all the completed skeins for the five part test spin I have done for ✨ @wands.and.wool ✨

I consider Unn a friend and I am very happy and grateful that she trusted me with her babies (read hand dyed braids of spinning fibre) - these are if nothing else, part of the very beginning of what should be a successful dye business!

Each one of these five have their own grid post here by me, if you want more info on any specific one.

How did I like it?!

I like the look of final yarn of best of the Kent Romney.
Th very first one I spun: the skinny turquoise/green skein.

I really like how perfect it looks, very even and makes me feel like an accomplished spinner.

If I had to choose which one was the most entertaining to spin, we have one winner:

Polworth Tweed - and the beautiful tonal burgundy, the last one I spun in the test.

I might have also been very entertained by the fact that I could easily see my own progress since spinning Polworth Tweed as my 2025 TdF project.

In the category of rustic grey wool I was enchanted by the grey base Jämtland cross - it really spoke to my inner Waldorf child spirit.
All colours are beautiful on this amazing base. Darkest and moodiest in this line up.

We need more hand dyed fibre on non-white bases!

The Targhee was amazing to spin, almost to good to be true and I would love to spin it again, but - this sounds crazy - I can hear that, but was the yarn a little too perfect for what I normally go for?

Like so perfect it makes me nervous?
Maybe. But give me more, let me be nervous over such perfection.

So is there one I didn’t like. No. There is not.

If I ”had to” spin 1000 grams - yes exactly one full kilo of only one of these beauties my line up would be:

Kent Romeny
Jämtland cross
Targhee
Polworth Tweed
Jämtland

What would you pick?! ☝️

Fifth & final fibre☝️

I am doing a 5 part test for ✨@wands.and.wool ✨
Dyed by @wandsandneedle

Fibre: Polworth Tweed
Weight: 112.4 grams as fibre

111.7 grams & 324.5 meters as yarn
Making it 290.5 meters per 100 grams

Polworth Tweed was my 2025 Tour de Fleece challenge - you can find it on my grid.

Preparation: Carefully mulling over how to deal with this beauty and deciding to try to treat it like the previous ones by splitting it down the length of the fibre, opening it up with my fingers and then going over it trice with my diz.

This fibre showed me how far I have come in my spinning progression 🥹

2025 it was difficult - but fun.
2026 it was so much joyful fun!

I feel I need to spin tweed again soon and definitely prepare it with my diz - I didn’t in 2025.

I save all these test spins in a highlight called Handdyed 🎨
- in case you are curious to see more 🫶

The forth ☝️

Doesn’t this one just makes us think of summer deserts, icecreams and smoothies?!

I am doing a 5 part test for ✨@wands.and.wool ✨
Dyed by @wandsandneedle

Fibre: Targhee
Weight: 52.3 grams as fibre

52.1 grams & 143 meters as yarn
Making it 274.5 meters per 100 grams

Targhee is a fibre I have not spun before and I think my only reference point is holding skeins of Brooklyn Tweed yarn in my hands - other than that: zero familiarity, meaning I have not even knit it 😅

Preparation: Split down the length of the fibre, opened up with my fingers and then gone over trice with my diz.

This fibre was extremely perfect and I wish I could go back in time and offer it up to myself as I was starting out struggling with slippery fibre. Nice handle with enough tooth.

This is the third instalment ☝️

I am doing a 5 part test for ✨@wands.and.wool ✨
Dyed by @wandsandneedle

Fibre: Jämtland cross
Weight: 52.9 grams as fibre

52.8 grams & 94.5 meters as yarn
Making it 179 meters per 100 grams

This braid was made up by thin slivers, so I though to divide it in half. Two perfect lengths of the same size, but not the same weight 😅

I then noticed that the fibre wanted to split down the middle absolutely perfectly and when I took one from each length I got two perfectly weighed out units.

I have spun Jämtland before - but not a Jämtland cross.

As with the two previous test spins I attempted to prepare this with my diz.

It did not work.
This fibre refused the diz.
It simply refused.

I tried but nothing happened.
It came out looking the same as when it went in.

Lucky for my my fingers did a good job.

This fibre really spoke to me, just the right amount of the primitive feel to make me feel super happy - yet not poke at my sensibilities, by too much of the primitive.

And grey!
Aaaah handdyed on grey, it will probably always hold a special place in my heart.

Two more still to come ✨

Sunny day in September?! ☀️
Perfect day for scouring!

Today I washed 2 kg of Romney.
One white - One grey ✌️

The grey one was much easier to wash than the white one, but I am excited for both of them.

I have only spun the tiny 25 grams sample of Romney before, you know the first one I did for @wands.and.wool a few days ago?!

The white fleece I think would be nice to comb - preferably outside so all the unwanted can just fall out 🤭

The grey one feels like it wants to be carded.

If you came to see my five part series of handdyed, don’t worry I am on the third one - You should not need to wait too long to see it.

A sunny day was just too good to pass up.
The weather forecast says there won’t be another for at least a week 🙈

The second ☝️

I am doing a 5 part test for ✨@wands.and.wool ✨
Dyed by @wandsandneedle

Fibre: Jämtland
Weight: 55.3 grams as fibre

54.8 grams & 114 meters as yarn
Making it 208 meters per 100 grams

This braid was made up by two thin slivers that I separated and then went over with the diz twice - middle and smallest hole, skipping the biggest.

I have spun Jämtland before.

You might remember my Gold Medal Lambs Fleece 🏆
The very very very white one that took me over 1.5 years to work trough on my Jenkins Aegean Spindle - yes that one 😅

My fingers remember clearly, and I enjoyed changing it up and spinning this on my wheel.

I also enjoyed the unusually slim slivers giving me no reason to split the length of the fibre, which made it significantly easier for me to maintain colour order and also general fiber management.

First one ☝️

I am doing a 5 part test for ✨ @wands.and.wool ✨
Dyed by @wandsandneedle

Fibre: Kent Romney
Weight: 26.6 grams as fibre

56.3 meter & 26.3 grams as yarn,
Making it 214 meter per 100 grams.

I prepared it by splitting it down the middle, revealing a lighter core.

Before going over it with my diz I open the each length with my fingers.

Each time I do this I can’t help but wonder at the amazing feeling it gives the fibre - I mean just look at the difference!

I have not spun Romney before, lucky for me I liked it!
Because I confess to having 2 kilos Romney waiting for me to scour 😅

Four more to come ✨

Hi 👋

My name is Christine and I like to spin.

I have the good fortune of knowing a few others who like to spin too - most live far away, a couple live close and some live in Sweden, but not so close.

In this last category we find @wandsandneedle -
She is probably the only person I know who has whole basement dedicated to wool prep with a discoball for more joy 🪩

Sometimes I need to be a little bit more like her.

So when she asked me to spin some of her hand dyed fibre I thought here is my chance:

Help a fellow spinner out, do a good thing - get a taste of being her 🙌

What’s not to like?

I can be a bit on the serious side, spin big proper projects that will be sweaters, refinement of process and technique - and don’t get me wrong I do love those things.
But there is always more of that.

Breaking it up with some handdyed joy spinning, with no choosing on my side.
All I did was say Yes!
Joy-maxxing 🙌

Would you have said yes to a mystery pack of handdyed fibre? Your contribution being feedback and of course spinning?

When you have a new baby yarn - even when it looks like an absolute chungus, it is a good thing to bring it out in the garden and let it meet some of the plant friends before they go to sleep.

And yes I am super happy with it 💕

It might have sounded differently in the two latest post, but that was me speaking about the Process and Mental Health tweaks to make the process more enjoyable - refinement of process to make my spinning life better.

And hopefully yours too 😘

What I will make?

Hopefully something amazing, but for now probably more yarn is where my heart is 🥰

Part 2 from the post yesterday.
- big thank you to all who shared their own thoughts -

The question got answered in the affirmative that I enjoy plying more if I skip the part of weighing skeins and counting strands each time I finish a skein.

There was this particular feeling of failing at approximately one third in to a big sweater spin. And technically this project was no exception, only the way I organised it.

So how did it go when all plying was done first and then the full focus was only on counting and weighing?

Much better.
Really much better!
But still look at what happens at skein 4-5 👇
If that pattern repeated 😬
Compare the numbers for 100 grams.

(Härva translated means skein, copied from my own notes)

Härva 1: 113 meter - 51.9 gram
191.2 meter per 100 gram

Härva 2: 98.5 meter - 50.7 gram
194.3 meter per 100 gram

Härva 3: 107.5 meter - 51 gram
210.8 meter per 100 gram

Härva 4: 113.5 meter - 52.6 gram
215.8 meter per 100 gram

Härva 5: 117 meter - 51.4 gram
227.6 meter per 100 gram

Härva 6: 108 meter - 51 gram
211.8 meter per 100 gram

Härva 7: 99 meter - 51.6 gram
191.9 meter per 100 gram

Härva 8: 103 meter - 50.5 gram
204 meter per 100 gram

Härva 9: 103 meter - 50.9 gram
202.4 meter per 100 gram

Härva 10: 109 meter - 50.9 gram
214.1 meter per 100 gram

Härva 11: 106 meter - 49.4 gram
214.5 meter per 100 gram

Doing this focused was so much easier ☺️
And I will continue doing it this way 🎉

The project in total:
1177.5 meter - 562 gram
209.5 meter per 100 gram

I hope this can be useful 🫶 taken in Stockholm, Sweden by @nishiknits
