Why Loiter Campaign's Women This Week.
Here is a consolidated list of all that's happening under the purview of Why Loiter Campaign's walks, meet ups, hikes, book clubs etc across the country THIS WEEK.

ALMORA WALK

TEZPUR WALK

KANDIVALI EAST WALK

BHIWANDI WALK

BAHAR MILO MEET UP THEMED AROUND MENTAL HEALTH

EARLY MORNING TREK IN BELAPUR CBD

BOOK CLUB GATHERING IN PARK IN MALAD

Go through the post for details on each.

Because women's movements must be sustainable and sustained

Because happy women make for stronger resistance

Because women's bodies in public spaces is a revolution

Because India needs to wake up and know that we are not waiting for "leaders" to tell us what to do anymore

Because we are taking things in our own hands. We are initiating, organising, mobilizing, redesigning and redefining what Indian politics will look like.

Because no one needs to tell us we need to "protest" a certain way.

We will decide. What our protest will
LOOK SOUND FEEL like.

Because we are decentralising leadership.

Because we are not worshipping heroes anymore.

Come on women, let's do this, together!

PS - we sent out a call across WA women's groups asking for media help and within 5 minutes we had an all India, highly experienced and talented media team that has made and designed all these lovely posters.
A big shout out to all of you. by @nishnamehta

We'll be reading and discussing some Indian feminist writing together. If you love reading, want to explore Indian Feminist writing, and want to occupy a public space together, then this is the place for you!

Note: reading material will be shared at the meeting, no pre-reading required.

(पढ़ने का समान पार्क में ही मिल जायेगा, पहले से किसी तयारी की ज़रूरत नहीं है) by @nishnamehta

It has been transformational, to say the least, to initiate the @whyloitercampaign in Malad. What started as a reluctant "leadership" role, because, come on, every group project ends in that one person doing all the work but the Malad Loiterers proved me wrong with decentralised leadership with different people stepping up to take the lead even without a prior heads up between last weekend and this weekend.

Personally, small changes like stepping out wearing certain clothes and not carrying an extra layer, my parents not asking me every hour about my whereabouts, the first Krantinaari of my life (mummy) joining us for one of the walks (because she was busy chilling in Manali with her girl gang during the last one), to just generally feeling less burdened about existing as a woman and finally realising that the "bad girls" I grew up idolising weren't bad girls after all 🤷🏽‍♀️ taken in Malad by @nishnamehta

What a day to walk hallu hallu with @gohalluhallu and @bombay_ka_shana on 13th September, World Indigenous Rights Day, to one of the Adivasi padas in the heart of suburban Mumbai. From looking at the difference in the Dahisar River outside and inside the national park to understanding the significance of the Warli script (art) to lazing in the river and of course, the food and the people we spent the day with. A great reminder to look around and reflect on our relationship with the land we stand on, with the city love in and where we come from. by @nishnamehta

When the world drowns in the flood of indifference, words flow straight from the heart.

In June I wrote a new story "The Wild Doesn't Need Google Maps" about a lost Tussar Silk Moth I observed 8 years ago. What started as a reading for @alba_out_this_n_that and @rafe_by_the_ocean in their backyard, turned into the curation of an art+science programme: Night Neighbours.

Last month we celebrated National Moth Week (@mothweek) with more inputs from our collaborators Sefi George (@summer_scribbles) and Gaurav Soman (@butterfliesofmulund). This gave the story an edge in their own special ways.

Sefi and I had been planning this for weeks until we were faced with a huge challenge of finding a suitable venue that made setting up a moth screen possible. Finally, we presented the programme online and what an experience it was to share the story from a dark room I set up at home and asked the participants to switch off their lights and experience the story in the dark followed by making Sefi's flying Luna Moth!

Gaurav stepped in last minute to fact-check the story making it authentic and made it a part of his butterfly and moth walk at Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Garden (@ovalekarwadibutterfly) . Performing at a butterfly garden for families and fellow butterfly enthusiasts and watching the man himself, Mr. Rajendra Ovalekar in action with his saplings was a different kind of magic.

Night Neighbours has taken many different shapes and forms throughout the weeks leading up to National Moth Week and I hope it metamorphoses further every time I perform this story. by @nishnamehta
