'On Country: Photography from Australia' will make its Australian premiere at Melbourne's Immigration Museum next month after being shown at the Rencontres d'Arles photography festival in France.

The exhibition brings together 17 Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and collectives whose work explores Country, colonialism, community and identity through photography.

Yung Milla (@yungmilla_) has made history as the first Indigenous artist and rapper to win The Voice Australia, taking out the 2026 title after a standout run on the competition. 

Speaking to Style Up, the Marranunggu rapper said he wanted to bring the win home for his mob and use the national platform to share the stories and experiences of his community. 

His victory earned him $100,000 and a recording and development package with Hive Sound Studios.

Kamilaroi and Samoan artist Becca Hatch (@beccaxhatch) has released her latest single ‘Extra Time’, the fourth of seven tracks leading into her forthcoming Black Flower EP, due in February 2027. 

The release follows a strong year for Hatch, who was nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Soul/R&B Release and named a Spotify RADAR AU/NZ artist and campaign ambassador. 

She has also performed at major festivals, appeared on triple j’s Like A Version and featured on Disney’s Moana: Voices Across The Ocean soundtrack.

First Peoples artists with connections to Victoria are being invited to apply for the 2027 First Peoples Melbourne Art Trams, presented by RISING (@rising.melbourne) in partnership with Transport Victoria (@transport.victoria).

Led by Taungurung woman and RISING curator Kate ten Buuren, the 2027 program will explore the theme of ‘transformation’, with selected artworks turned into large-scale tram wraps travelling across Melbourne in May and June next year.

Selected artists will receive a $12,000 fee and work with the curator and a designer to adapt their work for the dimensions of a Melbourne tram. 

Applications are open to emerging, mid-career and established First Peoples artists working across visual art forms, including collectives and artists from metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Applicants must be Victorian Traditional Owners or First Peoples artists who primarily live and work in Victoria. Applications close at 11.59pm on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Gumbaynggirr fashion label Miimi & Jiinda (@miimiandjiinda) has unveiled its first Day to Night collection, Migaana, in Paris during Paris Fashion Week. 

Created by artist and creative director Melissa Greenwood alongside her mother, Lauren Jarrett, the collection transforms an original artwork into 19-momme silk garments inspired by the cycles and movement of Country.

Designed and made in Australia, Migaana features fluid silhouettes, tailoring and refined construction, marking an evolution of Miimi & Jiinda's practice while remaining grounded in culture, family and Country.

The collection is being presented in Paris through the Australian Fashion Council's (@ausfashioncouncil) Global Gateways: Paris 2026 program.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Martuwarra Fitzroy River, Marra Worra Worra’s (@marra_worra_worra) Skutta ’26 brought fashion, culture and creativity to the riverfront in a celebration of confidence and community. ⚡️

Held at Fitzroy River Lodge’s Riverside Pathway on Tuesday evening, the Fitzroy fashion event featured a diverse line-up of established creative spaces, local schools and emerging designers.

DanceRites 2026 will bring more than 320 First Nations dancers to the Sydney Opera House Forecourt across October 24–25, celebrating dance, song and culture from more than 50 nations and clans.

The program will honour the legacy of the late Rhoda Roberts AO, who founded DanceRites in 2015, alongside performances, workshops and Australia’s only national competition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance groups.

With 20 groups competing for a share of $50,000 in prize money, the biennial festival will showcase the strength and diversity of First Nations dance on Tubowgule.

Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW) returns from October 19–25, featuring a strong lineup of First Nations designers across runways, exhibitions and events throughout the city. 

The week will open at the NGV with the ganbu marra runway, showcasing First Nations fashion, culture and storytelling, with stylist Lindyn Rowland leading the creative direction. 

More than 300 designers and retailers will feature across 100+ events, including additional First Nations showcases.
