First Peoples artists with connections to Victoria are being invited to apply for the 2027 First Peoples Melbourne Art Trams, presented by RISING (@rising.melbourne) in partnership with Transport Victoria (@transport.victoria).

Led by Taungurung woman and RISING curator Kate ten Buuren, the 2027 program will explore the theme of ‘transformation’, with selected artworks turned into large-scale tram wraps travelling across Melbourne in May and June next year.

Selected artists will receive a $12,000 fee and work with the curator and a designer to adapt their work for the dimensions of a Melbourne tram.

Applications are open to emerging, mid-career and established First Peoples artists working across visual art forms, including collectives and artists from metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Applicants must be Victorian Traditional Owners or First Peoples artists who primarily live and work in Victoria. Applications close at 11.59pm on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Congratulations to Harriet Mills (@salan_arts), recipient of the inaugural 2026 CATAPULT Professional Development Award ($10,000), proudly supported by @cairnscouncil.

At just 19 years old, Harriet is already establishing herself as one of Queensland's most exciting emerging First Nations artists. With connections to Naghigal, Kulkalgal and Badhugal, her intricate ink-on-paper works draw from the visual language of Zenadth Kes printmaking traditions, exploring identity, genealogy and cultural continuity through a deeply personal lens.

Following an outstanding CIAF, where her entire booth sold out, this inaugural award recognises Harriet's remarkable artistic talent and supports the continued development of her practice through professional development, mentorship and new opportunities.

Huge congratulations, Harriet! We can't wait to see where your creative journey leads next.
