NIU Steelband was joined by NIU Mariachi for a rehearsal of “El Son De La Negra”, a song recognized all over the world as originating in Mexico 🇲🇽🎻🎺

It’s special to see two traditions come together and connect through music. Music is one of the most powerful ways for cultures to share their stories and learn from one another.

Thank you, NIU Mariachi, for a wonderful rehearsal. We’re looking forward to playing together again soon! taken in NIU School of Music by @niu.steelpan.program

What a fantastic day at the DeKalb Corn Classic! 🌽🛢️🎶

We’ve been honored to provide musical entertainment for this event for many years, and it’s always a blast helping energize the runners and cheer them on along the way!

We loved bringing the music, hyping up the runners, and being part of the incredible race-day atmosphere. 🎶🔥👏

Thanks to everyone who made this year’s event so much fun! ❤️🌽🏃‍♂️ taken in Northern Illinois University by @niu.steelpan.program

The All-University Steelband is NIU’s beginner and intermediate level steelband, open to NIU students, faculty, and staff! Graduate assistants Josiah Didier and Amelia Bonner direct the ensemble, with students often performing arrangements written by both directors. This year, we’re excited to have 21 students, making this one of the largest ensembles we’ve had! 🎶🛢️🎵🛢️🎶 taken in NIU School of Music by @niu.steelpan.program
