Charlton Alfonso’s arrangement of “Savannah Grass” was one of the first pieces our ensemble ever learned, making the opportunity to perform it alongside him on our inaugural tour to Trinidad especially meaningful.

The original song by @kesthebandofficial celebrates the Queen’s Park Savannah as the heart of Trinidad and Tobago’s annual Carnival festivities, including Panorama.

Experiencing the Junior Panorama competition firsthand gave our ensemble a deeper appreciation for the Savannah’s place in Trinbagonian culture and for the tradition behind the music we had been playing.

That experience, together with @charloalfonso sharing the story behind his arrangement, brought new meaning to the piece and helped us deliver a performance of “Savannah Grass” that we will never forget.
