Summer Recap 2026!

This summer our interns consisted of a mixed batch of new and older youth who all took on a project of their choosing to present to the public! The older youth served as mentors for the younger ones to help build their public speaking skills, presentation making skills, and overall room presence when speaking about different topics.

All the while making art to represent themselves, their topics, and groups they worked in! Their research projects consisted on the following;

Gender inequality in medicine

Porn Harms All - How rape culture consumes us

How dress codes negatively affect marginalized communities

Join us in celebrating our awesome Gender Justice Organizer Yahaira's birthday! 🥳

Yahaira is an incredible part of our organizing team. Being a child of immigrants and a longtime SWOPista, she has consistently led a cohesive youth internship for many years and has continued to mentor several of our current senior interns. Yahaira has led many of SWOP's workshops and faciltated group gatherings for visitors and local community members alike. She has a deep background in gender justice feminism work, and led the Jeanne Gauna Social Justice Spirit Awards ceremony during past Chile Fiestas. We are so lucky to have you, Yahaira! Service Learning Youth Work!

Our service learning youth participated in an activity where they picked an influential woman in New Mexico’s history! This activity was based on the New Mexico Historic Women’s Markup curious for grades 9-12!
