- THE HOUSE OF TIME Time does not exist, and isn’t it peculiar to notice how, for most, it is an immaterial concept. The feeling of not perceiving its flow is common; of not mastering it, of being unable to move according to its rules. It is a mystery everyone experiences at every moment; it unites us and divides us at the same time. Time works differently than it seems. It is not linear; if we were to assign it an image, it would resemble a breaking wave more than a straight line. Physics tells us that what we usually measure is not time itself. Instead, what is described is the movement of things relative to other things. For example, if we consider the movement of the rising sun and the oscillation of a pendulum swinging back and forth, what we measure is how one moves in relation to the other. We also know that time flows faster at higher altitudes and slower at lower ones. It’s not just clocks that are affected by height and gravitational fields, but all phenomena occurring within time: the speed at which we think, the number of times a flower opens and closes, aging. Take the example of two twin brothers reuniting after many years: one lived by the sea, the other in the mountains. The one who lived in the mountains will appear older. β€œNow” means nothing. And if: β€œI will love you forever” for how long will I love you? Time can be familiar, intimate, but also frightening and incomprehensible. It is the conductor of our days, and yet, at the same time, it does not exist. So, what does it mean to have no time? Process / visual study Looking back at the process behind two projects, Datura and Bewilder. Datura inspired me to experiment with translating plant forms into something that feels both beautiful and dangerous. Roots spreading quietly underneath, blooming into something poisonous. It didn’t make it into the final piece, but it was so much fun to play with! Along the way, I played with organic forms and movement, and explored in TouchDesigner how the texture of sound could shape the visual rhythm. That language later found its way into a cute little visual for Bewilder {惑}, my collaboration with @zel.zzs by @nnnning6.6

I grew up returning to Kenting, spending much of my childhood in the water. My ninety-year-old grandfather still insists on swimming in the sea every day, while my father left Taipei to build a life by the coast through diving. For my family, the sea is more than a landscape. It is a place that keeps calling us back. An ocean current may take fourteen hundred years to complete its cycle. What might it have learned along the way, and how much might it have had to let go? This work imagines a moon belonging to the sea of Houbihu, Kenting. Using data on ocean currents, seasonal changes, and daily sea conditions, its light shifts in colour and movement, following the rhythms of the ocean itself. For me, the sea is a place where energy dissolves. In the silence between breaths, time feels suspended, and the body seems to move closer to eternity. If divers are flying, then the sea is another universe. This is the universe I wish to dedicate to my family and to all those who have shared the underwater world with me. by @nnnning6.6
