The Boston Barbershop, 2 Bath Street, Frome

PRIVATE VIEW - Friday 2 October, 6–9pm

OPEN - 3–11 October 2026

Cut From Reality is a solo exhibition of paintings by @luke_h_waller presented in the setting of a temporarily out-of-service barbershop in the centre of Frome.

Bringing together recent and earlier paintings, the exhibition explores the unreliable nature of memory and the space between lived experience, recollection and invention. Luke constructs images through a process of visual collage, drawing on fragments of personal experience alongside imagery found in film, television and photography. Figures, places and cultural references are removed from their original contexts and reassembled into scenes that feel at once familiar and difficult to place.

The Boston Barbershop provides a fitting setting. Barbershops have long been places where stories are exchanged, memories recounted and familiar tales told and retold, shifting subtly with each telling.

For nine days, paintings assembled from similarly altered fragments of experience occupy this space. Neither documentary nor fiction, they invite viewers to look, recognise and construct narratives of their own: versions of events, cut from reality.

‘Where are we now?’ is opening later this week at
@no6bruton (6 High Street, Bruton BA10 0AA)
as part of Somerset Art Weeks Festival (Venue 56).

Install is almost complete!

Our collective toured a project ‘Inch by IN:CH’ to non-arts spaces in the South West in 2021 (post covid), taking art to the community. We’re now coming together again with new work, and new perspectives. We showed recently at @studio44ad in Bath, and are now touring to Bruton.

The exhibition will be open Fri- Sun 25 – 27 Sept & 2 – 4 Oct, 10am–5pm.

The gallery is an intimate space with fabulous windows in a Grade II listed building, which was once a Tailor shop. It’s situated near @atthechapel and @hauserwirthsomerset’s Stockwell House.

One of us will be there each day to welcome you - do pop in!
