LUKE IS COOKING!

A couple volume blocks and we’re now doing multiple of close to or over my personal records . I’m exited to keep pushing to see how strong we can become for provincials this coming fall. Still lots to improve on (bench pauses for example) but overall moving in the right direction.

I feel like I don’t say it enough so thanks to friends and family for always supporting and especially @luke_bermingham for the great coaching. Se thankful to be able to pursue something to an elite level.

Volume block total: 617.5kg
Reps: 2-4-3

Canadian Central Champion 🥇
@noah.g_83 83 kg subjr division

Noah has completely transformed as a lifter in the past year. It was actually the exact 1 year anniversary of our first meet together on comp day. In that year, Noah added 93 lbs to his total while competing FOUR times.
(He had to compete that many in order to be eligible for nationals)

That’s a lot of back to back preps.
Each time we peaked we figured something new out, and this meet was our best yet. Besides me making the wrong call on bench, and Noah putting down his 3rd Deadlift early we had a perfect day… 💀

Going into this comp we had the longest timeframe of the 4 meets I mentioned. We were blowing up squats all prep, taking rep Pr after rep PR. We planned on ending around 220-225 kg, but after the opener moved a littler harder than expected we took a smaller 7.5 kg jump, made an adjustment and had a great second. There was just no way I was making a 12.5 kg jump after a 7.5 kg jump in a potential close battle for first.

Bench has been notoriously the most stubborn lift for Noah, in prep we pushed it quite hard and ended up hitting a massive 295 & 300 lbs bench. After this the shoulder flared up. With some rehab, strength was back and we were ready for a comp PR. We matched the comp PR on the second, but we’re off balance. I got greedy and made a 5kg jump. Noah battled hard, narrowly missing at the top.

At this point we were still in a great position, we opened deadlifts at 245 kg, made a 17.5 kg jump (262.5 kg) to secure our spot in gold, and then went for the National Record pull. Noah nailed the execution and grinded it out well, but put the bar down milliseconds before the “down” command and it cost us the lift. After battling the jury we accepted the L (I knew Noah missed the command) but we must check anyway lol.

So proud of this guy! Noah has gone from a lifter who couldn’t put it together on the day, to an undeniable threat for a podium spot.

Time for a nice off season, put on some good size and make that Jr debut one to remember 🤝

Long centrals recap :

Thank you to everyone who supported me through prep and on meet day. Wouldn’t do it without you guys. Notably @untappedpwr and @kylograham for letting me stay with them this weekend. Luke was an awesome coach as always so I have to thank you for the amazing day 🫶

Squats
200 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
207.5 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
217.5 ⚪️⚪️⚪️

Bench
120 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
127.5 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
132.5 🔴🔴🔴

Deadlifts
245 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
262.5 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
286.5 🔴⚪️🔴

Taking the win was priority #1 going into the meet. Squats went very good 3/3 with some room in the tank which can help out giving energy to deadlifts. Deadlifts usually make or break my total. I hit a 7.5 kg squat pr and will hopefully be hitting 500lbs very very soon. Bench was having trouble throughout prep with an intercostal strain and shoulder issues but Coach Luke peaked it very well regardless. Unfortunately I was not able to execute my strength and was pushing the bar to the left (you can see on my second attempt). I came out with the same bench as nationals. I will bench 315 soon so long as I work on technique. Deadlifts are always the most fun for me since they are undoubtedly my best lift. We took a conservative opener of 245 and absolutely lit it up then jumped to 262.5 and did the same. At this point I had secured 1st place and a 600+ total (about time). We decided that it’s not entirely out of reach to go for the national record so we loaded it. Honestly I think it was the nerves or the excitement that caused me to put it down to soon after I was locked out. This was before the down command and it cause me to loose the record. Obviously it feels like poo to miss a lift like that but it shows potential in what will come later on.

First Nationals for @noah.g_83 🇨🇦

7/9 day
210kg / 463 + 10 kg
127.5 kg / 282 - 2.5 kg
240 kg / 528 - 12.5 kg
+ 2.5 kg total pr

First of all, super proud of Noah for how far he’s come in the past 8 or so months we have been working together. From DQ’s and having trouble putting it together to 9/9 days and a podium threat at nationals.

Insane path he’s on. Noah still has lots of room to fill out the 83’s (78 kg weigh in) We had to compete many times in a row to meet the nationals qualifying standards, the last one being 5 weeks before this.

Handled by @colton_prc (thanks buddy) the day started off very well!

Squats really showed up, + 10 kg / 22 lbs pr with lots of room in the tank. (500+ will fall soon)

Bench also showed up pretty strong but we decided to take 127.5 kg / 281 lbs - also with some room in the tank!

Going into dead’s we were 6/6 as planed.. and we’re looking to pull onto the podium if the opportunity presented itself. Deadlift warmups we’re looking unreal, but on the opener we had a grip issue (first time ever)

Colton made sure they would wipe the bar on the second attempt and we went up 7.5 kg anyway, the second was clean & we loaded 262.5 kg to try and secure the 600kg total. Again the grip have us problems.

We are changing the way we grip the bar & are now well back into training! Come Provincials or Centrals, Noah will blow past the 600 kg total!
