@foreflight’s new insurance agency is competing with brokers that already exist. So what does that mean for pilots?

For a 5,000-hour ATP-rated pilot with a proven track record, maybe that doesn’t mean much.

But for a newer pilot, it could mean everything.

Newer pilots don’t have a proven history. And now, instead of a broker advocating for them and helping find the best rate, they have an agency promising a quote in 30 seconds.

So when the largest EFB company, with access to all of your data, promises to spend “30 seconds” on your quote, we wonder: is this actually helpful? by @noahinflight

The largest EFB company, owned by a private equity firm, recently launched an insurance agency to compete directly with the brokers already serving pilots.

And despite having access to all your data, ForeFlight isn’t taking the time to understand your unique situation as a pilot. Instead, it’s replacing the personal relationship and advocacy of a broker with a faster, more automated process.

I’m Noah, the CEO and founder of Tropiq, and I’m relatively new to aviation.

For nearly 20 years, I’ve founded, built, and sold tech companies. But, three years ago, I took a discovery flight that changed everything.

Since then, I’ve earned my commercial and instrument ratings and logged more than 1,200 hours in helicopters and airplanes. But, the more I flew, the more I noticed something I couldn’t unsee:

Aviation technology was behind.

I saw problems that other industries had already tackled with better data, better tools, and smarter technology. I kept asking myself: Why hasn’t aviation caught up?
