WOW! That was STRESSFUL 😅 but WORTH IT!

Only 5cm between the propellers and the tent 😵‍💫

I’ve wanted to get a shot like this for a while now, and so it was GAME ON when @alucab_africa fitted an LT-50 onto my Jimmy’s roof. Couldn’t be happier with this set up!

It took a few tries (and one crash) to get this shot.
I was super nervous because this is a new drone, but with the opportunity of getting a shot like this, I went for it.

And yes, I was flying while climbing the ladder 😂

This trip was a secret (here’s why) 👇

A week before I left Indo, I noticed a good chart for one of South Africa’s best and most isolated waves. I tracked this chart up until my flight, and it was only getting better.

The only downside at the time was that despite it being a super isolated wave, @naturalselectionsurf was hosting an invite only competition at this wave, during this run of swell. I wasn’t invited, but there’s no way I was missing these waves.

So, I landed in Cape Town, went home, repacked my board bag, and drove 6hrs up the coast on my own to meet the NST Crew that was already there. Luckily, I knew most of the local crew, and my uncle Cheyne was production manager for the event.

A few “Howsits” later, and I was locked in with the international crew as well - legends. I had planned to spend 1 night and 2 days in the desert, but ended up staying 3.

And the waves… PERFECT.

A special time in the desert to say the least.

Sunset to Sunset.

The amount of 10/10 sunsets we saw in Indonesia was insane. We thought that surely it couldn’t get better, and then 24hrs later, there’d be another… endless beauty!

Oh ya, and there were a few vey good coffee dates with @gia_vanschalkwyk and Mr Chicken between sunsets.

Looking back on this trip makes me smile.

All good things come to an end.

I grew up watching surf videos like this.
Dreamy blue water barrels that go forever.
This wave was better than those dreams.

Everything about this wave was perfect.
Uncrowded. Sunrise. Warm water.

I can’t wait to go back for more!

And yes, I’m in a wetsuit, because the reef is so shallow that when you fall, hitting it is a guarantee. Thanks @xcelwetsuits for the best reef protection, ahaha!
