During Congressional Black Caucus Week, NOBCO’s Board of Directors convened in Washington, D.C. for our Annual Board Meeting bringing together leaders from across the country to reflect on our progress, strengthen our priorities, and look ahead to the work before us.

As NOBCO continues its 44-year legacy of service and leadership, we remain committed to elevating the voices of Black county officials and advancing the communities they serve nationwide.

We are grateful to our Board of Directors for their continued leadership and commitment, and to the National Association of Counties (NACo) for their continued partnership and for welcoming us to their headquarters.

Commemorating Juneteenth—a day that marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a powerful reminder that freedom, justice, and opportunity are ideals that must continually be advanced and protected.

Juneteenth is more than a historical milestone. It is a reflection of resilience, perseverance, and the enduring belief that progress is possible even in the face of tremendous adversity. It reminds us that the pursuit of equity requires leadership, courage, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.

For more than four decades, the National Organization of Black County Officials (NOBCO) has worked to elevate the voices and leadership of Black county officials while advancing policies and opportunities that strengthen communities across America. Today, we honor the generations whose sacrifices paved the way for our service and recognize the responsibility we carry to continue building a more inclusive and prosperous future.

On this Juneteenth, may we honor the past, celebrate the progress achieved, and recommit ourselves to the work of creating opportunity for generations to come

Access to high-quality internet service is no longer a luxury. It’s a necessity. The proposed Charter-Cox merger presents an opportunity to accelerate California’s investment in broadband infrastructure, improve network resilience, and support future growth. The CPUC should approve the merger as soon as possible. A powerful gathering of leadership.

During the NACo Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., the National Organization of Black County Officials (NOBCO) convened county leaders from across the country for our annual NOBCO Membership Meeting.

The response from attendees was incredible, with many members sharing that this was one of the strongest NOBCO membership meetings to date.

Key highlights included a timely State of Policy update from Anna Buhlinger of @nationwide, as well as a compelling fireside chat on election integrity featuring Cook County Clerk @mmgordon2000 and Fulton County Commissioner @marvinarringtonjr

The meeting also included a tribute honoring the legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson, recognizing his lifelong impact on civic leadership and the continued importance of engaged, principled leadership in our communities.

As we continue building momentum, members were also reminded of the importance of active membership participation and the exciting opportunity ahead at the upcoming 40th Annual NOBCO Economic Development Conference in Maui.

Thank you to all of the county officials, partners, and members who joined us as we continue advancing Black county leadership nationwide.

🔥 Fireside Chat at NACo | NOBCO Panel

Honored to participate in a powerful fireside conversation at the National Association of Counties @nacocounties conference hosted by National Organization of Black County Officials @nobcoinc.

I had the opportunity to sit down with the Clerk of Cook County @cookcountyclerk, Illinois, Monica Gordon, for a candid discussion on election integrity, public trust, and the recent FBI raid on Fulton County’s elections warehouse.

We discussed:
🗳️ Protecting the chain of custody
📑 Transparency in election administration
⚖️ The legal tools counties can use to defend voter data
🇺🇸 Restoring and maintaining public confidence in our democratic process

As county leaders, we must stand firm in protecting the sacred trust between voters and the election system. Integrity is not partisan — it is foundational to democracy.
Appreciate NOBCO and NACo for creating space for real dialogue on issues impacting counties across the nation.

🇺🇸 2026 NACo Legislative Conference Recap
Honored to represent Fulton County at the 2026 Legislative Conference of the National Association of Counties (NACo) in Washington, D.C. 🇺🇸

County governments are on the front lines — delivering healthcare, public safety, housing, transportation, and economic opportunity.

NACo gives counties a unified voice to advocate for the federal resources and policy flexibility we need to serve our residents effectively.

This year’s priorities included:
✅ Protecting local decision-making authority
✅ Securing federal infrastructure and transit funding
✅ Strengthening behavioral health and crisis response systems
✅ Addressing housing affordability and homelessness
✅ Supporting veterans and senior services
✅ Protecting the integrity of our elections and public institutions

As Fulton County continues to lead in innovation and growth, it is critical that we remain engaged at the national level. Federal policy decisions have local consequences — and I will always ensure Fulton County has a strong voice at the table.

Thanks to @nobcoinc I spoke on a panel about election integration amd got the opportunity to share how Fukton County is pushing back and to share with other counties how they can be better prepared than we were.

We cannot wait for crisis to unite us. This summer at the @NAREB_Realtist Annual Convention, NOBCO CEO @millimoto emphasized the power of voting, policy engagement, and consistent presence at the table — long before the next emergency.
