Mario David Coronado Juárez was brutally chased and killed in a violent car crash by ICE on 09-20-2026 in Grand Rapids, MI. He leaves behind a family in Guatemala who desperately needs support to get him justice and reclaim his remains to be laid to rest by his loved ones. Please donate to help support his family through this devastating tragedy.

A vigil will be held tonight at 7:30pm in Grand Rapids at the intersection of Century Ave and 131 South Bound.

Last week, Salman (the owner and head chef of Kabuki Sushi in Flint) along with other crew members were detained by ICE.

Their loved ones are urgently raising funds for legal representation and other support needs. They have launched a GoFundMe which you will find a link for in our linktree.

Saturday morning, ICE kidnapped our neighbors as they do daily. Family members of Mario David Coronado Juarez were among them today. GRPD directly assisted and protected ICE agents and the GEO transport van. They also escorted ICE agents leaving for the day but not before arresting 3 community members who were resisting ICE and witnessing the kidnapping of our neighbors.

Cops and ICE go hand in hand! The city's refusal to pass the Privacy, Safety, and Dignity for all ordinance, especially prohibiting this exact type of collaboration, makes them and Mayor David LaGrand complicit in today's violence. by @nodetentioncentersmi

(Español abajo) Our neighbor Jhon has been detained by ICE for 2 months at the Chippewa County Correctional Facility in Sault Ste. Marie. Torn away from a family that loves him.

His family is racing to hire a private attorney and is asking our community for help in covering legal fees, commissary, and communication costs while he’s detained.

Today, our community came together to honor and remember Mario David Coronado Juarez.

Mario was not a criminal. He was a human being, a father, a husband, a son, and a member of our community who had dreams, responsibilities, and people who loved him and were waiting to see him again. He migrated from Guatemala with the hope of building a better future for his family.

His tragic death cause by ICE fills us with pain and forces us to ask how much more fear and suffering our communities will have to endure.

Our community deserves to live without being persecuted, without being treated as less than human, and without having to choose between seeking a better life for their families and living in fear.

For Mario and his family, we demand justice. We demand that his death be investigated transparently.

May Mario’s name never be forgotten. May his story remind us of our shared humanity and inspire us to stand together, defend the dignity of our families, and demand that every life be treated with respect.

Rest in peace, Mario. Your community remembers you, honors you, and will continue to demand justice for you.

Hoy, nuestra comunidad se reunió para rendir homenaje y recordar a Mario David Coronado Juarez; Mario no era un criminal. Era un ser humano, un padre, un esposo, un hijo y un miembro de nuestra comunidad que tenía sueños, responsabilidades y personas que lo amaban y esperaban volver a verlo. Thank you to everyone who showed up on Saturday, 9/12/2026 and showed support for their immigrant neighbors and FOR EACH OTHER. We will be providing updates as regularly as possible.

In the meantime, we ask that if you participated in the 9/12/2026 action in ANY capacity, you stay informed, motivated, and ACTIVE! @michigansolidaritybailfund paid bonds for the Grand Rapids 5, and they were released, but charges are still pending. We are seeking support for the legal and related expenses for them so they and we can continue doing the necessary work to abolish 🧊. September 12, Grand Rapids, Michigan

“They are going to take and take and take until we stop them. We are not going to acquiesce our way out of fascism.”

A contingency of local immigrant activist groups and protesters gathered at Sixth St Bridge Park and marched to the nearby ICE field office at 517 Ottawa.

Group organizers recognized the value of diversity of tactics needed in order for the community to resist ICE.

The main march attempted to enter an alleyway that offers the only egress into the ICE facility where detainees are held before being transferred to GEO
Group’s North Lake Detention Center. Another group
tried to block the other end of the alley.

GRPD blocked both groups from occupying the alley in order to let a GEO Group van exit. It is reported the van contained four community members recently abducted by ICE and en route to the North Lake facility.

A GRPD cruiser escorted the GEO van out of the alley and left onto Trowbridge.

The police left, and the two protest groups met in the alleyway behind the facility. As the group prepared to march around the building, police returned and issued a dispersal order.

At least five arrests were made, including a medic that was later arrested at the park well after the crowd dispersed.

Speakers and individual protesters emphasized the necessity of strength in numbers needed to rebuff police threats and block traffic in and out of the ICE facility. The crowd largely dispersed after lingering organizers called for more protestors to deploy diverse tactics against ICE.
