No Detention Centers in Michigan is a statewide coalition organizing to abolish immigrant detention and incarceration in Michigan and beyond.

This Día de los Muertos, join us to honor and remember the lives taken by ICE and Border Patrol, and to demand an end to the violence.

We’ll gather at the North Lake Processing Center on Sunday, 11/1 at 4pm and grieve publicly for the people who have died in ICE custody and been killed by ICE and Border Patrol agents, drawing on the Día de los Muertos tradition of honoring loved ones. Last December, Nenko Gantchev died at North Lake because of the GEO Group’s medical neglect, one of over 50 people who have died in ICE custody since the start of Trump’s second term. On September 20th of this year, ICE killed Mario David Coronado Juárez when they pursued his vehicle in Grand Rapids. Just days after that, they kidnapped more members of Mario’s family. No one is safe in ICE’s presence.

This event is part of End the ICE Age, a national weekend of action taking place in cities across the country from October 31st through November 2nd. Join organizations from across Michigan to honor lives lost, stand in solidarity with those held inside, and to demand an end to immigrant detention.

Mayor LaGrand still hasn't supported concrete policies that would limit local collaboration with ICE! Boycott his business & its products until he stops being complicit! Let your commissioners know GR stands with immigrants regardless of documentation!

Movimiento Cosecha was present at the “No Kings” event, where one of our allies delivered a message in support of the community. Our city must be protected; that is why we demand the passage of an ordinance to make Grand Rapids a sanctuary city. We will continue to seek #justiceformario—who lost his life while in the hands of ICE—as well as justice for all those who have gone missing across the country. Abolish ICE! #justiceforall ICEout

This past Saturday, 10/10/26, the family of Mario David Coronado Juárez paid their respects and said goodbye to their beloved family member. Movimiento Cosecha GR and GR Rapid Response to ICE /Respuesta Rápida al ICE were present in solidarity. We witnessed their pain and frustration over a life lost way too soon to I-C-E violence.
Today, Michigan Public released the disturbing 911 call, and details are emerging about something we already knew: I-C-E was in pursuit. We condemn I-C-E’s actions. In the call, we can hear a female agent laughing as Mario’s car burns, showing a disregard for a human life as he is dying. This is heartbreaking and feels like rubbing salt in the wound of our community members’ death.
We demand #JusticeForMario and call on the public to support our three demands:
1) Immediately enact the ordinance with the six sanctuary policies so that no more immigrant lives are lost this way.
2) An independent investigation into Mario’s death.
3) Bring those responsible for Mario’s death to justice.

Mario’s body is scheduled to be sent to Guatemala by 10/20, in coordination with and with financial support from the Guatemalan Consulate.
You can show solidarity with Mario’s family and support his dream of building a house for his wife and three children:

EXIGIMOS QUE SE PASE LA ORDENANZA DE “Privacidad, Seguridad y Dignidad para Todos”
El trabajo de las autoridades locales es de proteger a sus habitantes y tienen la potestad de detener la complicidad de la policía local con I-C-E y dejar de decir que no pueden hacer nada.

WE DEMAND THE PASSAGE OF THE “Privacy, Security, and Dignity for All” ordinance.
The job of local authorities is to protect their residents; they have the power to put an end to local police complicity with I-C-E and to stop claiming that there is nothing they can do.

On Thursday, September 24th, the Department of Homeland Security put out a statement with misleading information concerning the death of Mario David Coronado Juarez.

Please share the following information that refutes DHS claims.

Saturday morning, ICE kidnapped our neighbors as they do daily. Family members of Mario David Coronado Juarez were among them today. GRPD directly assisted and protected ICE agents and the GEO transport van. They also escorted ICE agents leaving for the day but not before arresting 3 community members who were resisting ICE and witnessing the kidnapping of our neighbors.

Cops and ICE go hand in hand! The city's refusal to pass the Privacy, Safety, and Dignity for all ordinance, especially prohibiting this exact type of collaboration, makes them and Mayor David LaGrand complicit in today's violence.

Last week, Salman (the owner and head chef of Kabuki Sushi in Flint) along with other crew members were detained by ICE.

Their loved ones are urgently raising funds for legal representation and other support needs. They have launched a GoFundMe which you will find a link for in our linktree.

Please share, give what you can, and help stand with Salman, Ashley, and the Kabuki Sushi team during this crisis.

Today, our community came together to honor and remember Mario David Coronado Juarez.

Mario was not a criminal. He was a human being, a father, a husband, a son, and a member of our community who had dreams, responsibilities, and people who loved him and were waiting to see him again. He migrated from Guatemala with the hope of building a better future for his family.

His tragic death cause by ICE fills us with pain and forces us to ask how much more fear and suffering our communities will have to endure.

Our community deserves to live without being persecuted, without being treated as less than human, and without having to choose between seeking a better life for their families and living in fear.

For Mario and his family, we demand justice. We demand that his death be investigated transparently.

May Mario’s name never be forgotten. May his story remind us of our shared humanity and inspire us to stand together, defend the dignity of our families, and demand that every life be treated with respect.

Rest in peace, Mario. Your community remembers you, honors you, and will continue to demand justice for you.
