The offshore inshore combo trips continue to impress all on the light tackle!! Ryler and his dad T scooted offshore landing a kingfish on mono, several bonitas and plenty of tunas. Love the summer fishing and all the variety that comes with it! Calm summer days mean we can sneak offshore and chase pelagic in the flats boat. Son took his two sons Trevor and Aidan out for an evening offshore/inshore trip. We were thick into the tunas and Bonitas landed over a dozen on the light tackle when this sail came into the spread and we hooked up on a 3k twin power. We chased him down and thankfully the sail stayed up top and we quickly leadered him. Once it got dark we smoothly ran back inside and ran the usual game plan getting a couple tarpon to the boat! Tyler and his father were in town for a mutual weekend birthday trip coming from the west coast. Tyler wanted tarpon and/or snook. Fishing started out with a high quantity of small jacks cudas and blue runners, some of which were kept for bait. We sent one down and didn’t have to wait long for a big bull shark to slurp a dead bait off the bottom. Once it got dark the tarpon were popping shrimp and crabs, but were difficult to get a bite out of, although Tyler did hook an absolute monster on the smallest rod on the boat. With time dwindling down and an impending thunderstorm we made a change. Using 12 lb test we had to work our way through the jacks but eventually Tyler got what he wanted with a beautiful overslot snook!! When 5 year old Maverick stepped aboard he had no idea the boat he was getting on was also a Maverick! He also didn’t know the size of some of the fish he was going to be going against! Using light 12 lb spinning gear Maverick was giving the juvenile cudas and jacks more than they could handle, until Maverick hooked something in a league of its own. Using the same tiny baits and tiny hook, Maverick found himself engaged with something much bigger. With minimal assistance from Dad, Maverick was able to keep this overslot snook away from structure and bring him boat side for a quick pic and release. Had Mateo and Andres in town from Texas for a quick morning trip. Despite not sleeping much the night before they were able to depart pre dawn and took full advantage each landing a tarpon on live mullet. Had repeat customer Sam in town for a couple days fishing. He and his wife fished one night tearing up the tarpon and then Sam did a solo early morning trip adding a few more tarpons along with jacks and cudas! Great couple of days fishing!! This spring has been a grind and so was this fish that took us over 30 minutes to land but Ryan finally got it done!! Over and out, back in again, only jumping one time, but she peeled drag well into the backing! Still plenty of big fish around with some smaller to medium sized fish moving into the area! Had Nick and Jerry in town for a couple nights. The father son duo teamed up for a few tarpon including fish landed on artificial and some nice jacks.
