Certain movies linger inside of your DNA, change you, inspire you. Maybe you saw them at an impressionable time in your youth or they just had a profound impact on you, but for whatever reason: you simply can’t get away from them. One of the first movies Adam and I bonded over was A Clockwork Orange, after having seen the soundtrack LP in his record collection, followed by 2001 A Space Odyssey. Both scores were touchstones in our understanding of how music, and by extension, track placement (arranged by Gerry Cisneros), could elevate the claustrophobic atmosphere of GUESS WHO. Here, Adam speaks on how pivotal a score is in getting the audience to believe in the reality depicted on screen, and the impact those influential soundtracks have had on him. This video features “CASING THE HOUSE,” which you can stream now, along with the rest of the original soundtrack, on all platforms. GUESS WHO is out now on YouTube. by @nofilmprojects

For this project, we really wanted to put the viewer on their back foot and obfuscate the internal and external fracturing realities at play here. The soundscape played a major role in conveying that confusion and amplifying the disquieting atmosphere, due in large part to Adam Schaffer’s haunting score, not to mention his contributions to sound design and sound effects. Here’s a sneak peek at how dialogue augmentation was utilized in the process. This video features “GLIMMER MELT,” which you can stream now, along with the rest of the soundtrack, on all platforms. It is no longer GUESS WHEN… GUESS WHO is out now! Thank you to everyone who made this is all possible and for believing in this vision. To all the cast and crew: GERRY, the architect and editor: without you this remains in the realm of lost ideas, like so many projects often do. Thank you for making this filmic dream, a reality. JESS, my beautiful partner, on and off screen: Thank you for trusting me and for diving headfirst into the unknown. There’s no one else I’d rather lose my mind with. Somehow you manage to find it every time. JOZEFINA, the human light meter and unshakeable steadicam: Thank you for capturing the immediacy of this slow burn nightmare. RYAN, my creative brother: Thank you for the constant communion, commiserations, and laughter. You made every moment on set feel fun and alive. JOHN, our ‘jumping into the deep end last minute haunting screen presence and logo’: Thank you for turning the danger up to 11 for this, and for going into a character that’s completely opposite to how you are in real life. ADAM, our maestro composer: Thank you for making this baby sing, boom, wail, and knock with your sonic flourishes and compositions. AUSTIN, BEN, CAM, and ALICIA: Thank you for your contributions to the dialogue editing, sound mastering, and production help. Ya’ll filled in the cracks no one ever sees or hears. KEN and LIZ, my parents: Thank you for helping shape my artistic sensibilities and for encouraging me to explore the darkness which blinds us. You are a both a guiding light. And to the rest of my family, friends, and members of the New Orleans film community: Thank you for taking time to hear, see, help, and watch this film come together. The feedback, motivation, and inspiration we all received throughout the process of making this, kept the engine running when I thought it on empty. It’s been one of my greatest joys in life getting to make this with the people I love and care about. by @nofilmprojects

Our film, GUESS WHO, is officially out in the world (link in bio). We filmed it across a couple weeks in late summer 2023. I feel so proud of the work that @alexkolpan @gerrycisneros @jozefinagocman John, Ryan, @rapbaum @adamschaffer.5 among others have put into this film. We had a beautiful hometown premiere last night at @thebroadnola. I never thought I would act, but it turns out if there are 100,000 people in a room and only one person believes in you and the other 99,999 people don’t…. Alex has been such an encourager of my creativity in any form that it takes. His vision, time, consideration, and attention to detail throughout this entire project has inspired me, challenged me, and made me a better believer in my own work. Thank you for taking me on this journey with you. 🫂 taken in New Orleans, Louisiana by @nofilmprojects
