Five Years of Nomad Gallery

Five years ago today, I took a bit of a leap.

On a whim, I bought a gallery and made one of the biggest career changes of my life. I had no idea exactly where it would lead, but I knew I wanted to create a space where art, artists and people could come together.

And somehow, five years later, here we are.

There have been plenty of twists, turns, challenges and surprises along the way, but what has meant the most has been the incredible community that has grown around Nomad.

To our artists, collectors, clients, friends, neighbours and everyone who has walked through our doors, purchased a piece, shared a post, stopped in for a conversation, or simply cheered us on: thank you. Your support has meant more than you know.

I also couldn’t mark this milestone without acknowledging my family and close friends, who have been there through every high and low over these five years. Their encouragement, patience, belief in me and countless conversations along the way have meant the world and helped keep me going when things weren’t always easy.

And a special thank you to Ken, who joined me in this adventure earlier this year and has already become such an important part of Nomad’s next chapter. I’m very excited about what we’re building together.

We won’t be officially celebrating in the gallery today, but five years feels like something worth celebrating, and we plan to do just that. We’re working on something for later this month, so stay tuned.

Five years of Nomad. So grateful for the journey, and even more excited for what’s ahead!

A CLOSER LOOK: BRUCE KLEEBERGER

Working in stone and wood, Bruce Kleeberger creates sculptures that explore organic forms, the human figure, and the natural world. With a sculpting practice that began in 1996, his work reflects a deep appreciation for the character, texture, and possibilities of each material.

A signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and an active member of the Sculptors’ Society of BC, Bruce’s work has been recognized at local and international juried exhibitions.

Featured work: Reframe Our Thinking
Carved in Carrara marble with gold leaf and a granite base, this striking sculpture explores the relationship between materials, form and perspective.

Also featured: Hart and Soul
A playful yet sophisticated combination of Carrara marble and bronze, this tabletop sculpture transforms a deer skull and its antlers into a striking heart-shaped composition. The contrast between the smooth marble and sculptural bronze brings together natural forms and geometric lines.

We’re thrilled to have Bruce’s exceptional sculptures as part of our collection.

Visit us to experience his work in person, or contact us for acquisition inquiries.

A CLOSER LOOK: ETIENNE GARCEAU

We’re pleased to re-introduce Etienne Garceau to Nomad Gallery and share a closer look at his expressive approach to contemporary painting.

Moving between figuration and abstraction, Etienne explores the human figure through thick layers of paint, gestural marks and scraped surfaces. His work balances recognizable forms with abstraction, creating paintings that reveal something new the longer you look.

In Deepening, warm ochres, muted greys and blush tones meet bold, textured strokes. The figure emerges through layers of paint, creating a compelling balance between form and abstraction.

After exhibiting in Vancouver in 2018, Etienne pursued animation and concept art before returning to oil painting in 2026. His current work explores human emotion, connection and the complexities of being human.

We’re pleased to welcome his captivating new work to Nomad Gallery.

A CLOSER LOOK: JEANETTE JARVILLE

We’re pleased to introduce Jeanette Jarville to Nomad Gallery and share a closer look at her expressive approach to contemporary painting.

Combining the influence of Old Master techniques with the spontaneity of Abstract Expressionism, Jeanette creates richly layered works that explore the complexities of human experience. Her paintings bring together bold colour, fluid gestures and dynamic compositions, balancing structure with spontaneity.

Inspired by personal reflection, the human figure, nature and the connections that shape our lives, Jeanette’s intuitive process allows each brushstroke to guide the next. The result is work that feels both contemplative and energetic, inviting viewers to discover their own interpretations.

An alumna of Emily Carr University, Jeanette has been exhibiting her work for more than 35 years, with her paintings represented in collections across Canada and internationally.

We’re delighted to welcome Jeanette and her work to Nomad Gallery.

Still creating. Still curious. Still inspired.

At nearly 95, local artist Ronald Glowe is a wonderful reminder that creativity has no age limit.

Ronald dropped by Nomad Gallery yesterday to see his own work on our walls and discover the work of our other artists. He spent nearly an hour exploring the Gallery, and he didn’t stop smiling the entire time.

Originally from Winnipeg, Ronald has exhibited across Canada and the US and has spent decades drawing inspiration from the natural world around him. His passion for painting continues, and it was a pleasure to see just how much joy he found in being surrounded by art.

The last slide features one of my personal favourites of his, A Happy Mess. I love its bold colours, playful composition and wonderfully expressive character.

Having Ronald here was a lovely reminder of why we do what we do. Art connects us, keeps us curious and continues to inspire us at every stage of life.

Art keeps us curious. And inspiration has no age.

A CLOSER LOOK: CONNIE GLOVER

There’s something beautifully organic about Connie Glover’s ceramic sculptures.

Inspired by forms found in nature, Connie’s work explores the shapes and rhythms of seed pods, buds and new growth. Her sculptural pieces are tactile and expressive, with layered surfaces and distinctive forms that feel both grounded and alive.

After more than four decades as a ceramic artist, Connie’s practice has continued to evolve, from studio ceramics and teaching to murals, large-scale public art and private commissions.

Her sculptural work brings that experience together in a particularly compelling way. Each piece reflects her appreciation for natural forms, texture and the quiet energy of transformation.

We’re pleased to welcome Connie Glover’s work to Nomad Gallery.

A CLOSER LOOK: EMILY LOZERON

There’s a sense of life and movement in Emily Lozeron’s work that draws you into the natural world.

Her paintings explore Canadian landscapes and wildlife through rich colour, expressive brushwork and a deep appreciation for the character found in nature. Rather than idealizing the landscape, Emily often looks a little closer, finding beauty in the weathered, unexpected and imperfect details that make a place feel real.

That perspective gives her work a wonderful sense of authenticity. A rugged landscape, a weathered tree or a fleeting moment in the wild becomes something worth pausing for.

Emily’s connection to nature continues to shape her work, bringing together landscape, wildlife and a strong sense of atmosphere.

We’re pleased to have Emily’s work at Nomad Gallery.

A CLOSER LOOK: MINDY HARDIMAN

Mindy Hardiman’s paintings are rooted in a lifelong connection to the natural world.

In Fishing Day, quiet water, distant mountains and small boats come together in a peaceful landscape. Through layers of blue, subtle texture and atmospheric light, Mindy captures not just a place, but the feeling of being there.

A longtime South Surrey–White Rock resident, Mindy works primarily in acrylic, both in her studio and en plein air. Her early years in the Okanagan, spent exploring lakes, forests and mountains, continue to influence her work today.

Curiosity and a desire to keep learning are central to Mindy’s artistic process, inspiring her to explore different styles, techniques and ways of expressing the landscapes around her.

We’re pleased to welcome Mindy’s work to Nomad Gallery.

A CLOSER LOOK: OLIVIER SALVAS

Olivier Salvas approaches the landscape through memory rather than literal representation.

In this body of work, familiar landscapes are explored through colour, movement and fragmented forms, creating compositions that feel both recognizable and imagined. Inspired in part by Olivier’s memories of growing up in the 90s, the paintings capture a sense of energy, nostalgia and discovery.

There is a physicality to the work that reveals itself over time. Layers, marks and details shift as you move closer, inviting you to discover something new with each look.

It’s the kind of work that can anchor a room while continuing to reveal something new the longer you spend with it.

A Vancouver-based contemporary artist, educator and curator, Olivier’s multidisciplinary practice is informed by urban culture, graffiti, street art and contemporary visual language.

We’re pleased to have several original works by Olivier in the Gallery.

It’s the kind of work that can anchor a room while continuing to reveal something new the longer you look.

A Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist, jewelry designer and teacher, Sonja’s work is deeply rooted in symbolism, intuition and transformation. With more than 35 years of experience, her practice spans painting, jewelry and design.
