•.Let the strap games get startet: oh guys you can’t imagine how happy I’m playing around with different straps for my new Ahoi 561. It is a very subtle watch in general but also features little colored details, so the possibilities are sheer endless. It works on fabric as well as on leather equally good. Can’t wait to try a bunch of different styles. •.Over time the Nomos Zurich Worldtimer grew on me more and more; it might be caused by the overwhelming success of the Club‘s take on that complication and the phenomenon that I always tend to the more in the know pieces? Or is it because I now appreciate more harsher, angular designs? Im not sure, but I get the feeling that a Zurich could be a nice contender to join the collection and make a trio out of the Nomos duo in the watch box. Let’s see. •.Never ever had an #nwa I passed on quicker than I posted about it. This lovely collectors set of an early Tangente „Lange dial“ featured its very first and original Kaufmann Ostrich leather strap, the more edgy and sharp buckle of the first gen as well as original papers with the old company address. While meeting with fellow Nomos enthusiasts my friend asked if I would sell him this lovely gem and as I would probably easier have another chance to grab myself one I passed it on to him. To see how happy he was about that possibility was worth the trade; that’s what the hobby is all about. •.As some of you already know I let all my Club‘s go (except the Dunkel) and I’m super happy that they found their way into fantastic collections of even more amazing people. The watch community and all the great conversations we have while chatting watches is pure joy, thx to all being a part of this joyful journey. For those wondering why I parted with the Club‘s: I love the model line and there is absolutely no negative reason for selling them. I just had the feeling that I wanna move on to something different and funds aren’t endless, so they had to go. That’s how the hobby works for most of us and there is the joy routed; if you ask me. If we could just buy and buy without limits the special wow factor would get loose. Would you agree? But here are even more news: I already have something new to present: the Ahoi Ref. 561. I adore this ref for quite some time now but never pulled the trigger while being focused on hunting down the rare Club‘s. But now the moment was perfect and I took the chance to buy this directly from Nomos as their last piece left. As most of you know this Ref isn’t available anymore and was replaced by a fresher, more modern take with the Ref. 567. The here presented set Ludwig Twice Unique is called „Auric“ routed on the Latin word aurum which means gold. A metal long beloved by humans for its warm appearance and whimsical shine. When true craftsman cook it down to slice thin pieces of gold plates the artisanal work can start. Think about the golden shine in prestigious churches, the fantastic paintings of Gustav Klimt or those beautiful furniture from the Rokoko era. The use of gold leaf is long practiced and needs a lot of experience and Fingerspitzengefühl to be mastered. What if that technique could be used to create a watch dial? Well Michelle Sachs together with NOMOS shows what’s possible. She’s one of the last of her craft and it’s a joy to look at the things shes creating. Gold isn’t commonly known for understatement and therefore some who would love to wear it more often are too shy for reaching a gold watch. This has now an end: Auric is pure class and plays the gold theme on a toned down, very artisanal and elegant way. The gold on gold is very delicate and far away from showing off and if theres a occasion where you still feel to flashy you go with the gold on steel to make it even more subtle. The perfect set for all of those who adore the golden shine but are too modest to flex. But trust us, you are worth it and it’s not about the others, it’s about you. Enjoy your gold.
