+ Wann: 06.10, 15:00-17:00h
+ Treffpunkt: Freiraum Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg

Foraging young shoots of knotweed in early spring.

In some regions of Japan and China it is common to harvest and consume this wild vegetable. The taste is very similar to Rhubarb. Would you give it a try?

Color gradient on cotton made by @eiscremekaiserin during the (non-) local dye lab in september.

The brown shade comes from the roots of Japanese knotweed (water extraction, hot, ca. 30 min)
and the salmon shade from the leaves and stems (alkaline extraction, hot, ca. 40 min).

As you can see in the second picture, the textile comes out of the dye bath with a greenish shade and then turns pinkish in contact with the air. Fascinating!

That's how the registration call looked like for the (non-) local lab workshop series last September.

—

How can design practice help understand and throw new perspectives into the ecological issue of biological invasions?

Tones of plant biomass are being regularly uprooted and disposed in Germany as a result of conservation management actions with the aim of controlling the spread of certain newcomer species.

Is there a way we can turn this problem source into a resource? Let's take a deeper look at these organisms and find out how we can create with them instead of destroying them.

Stay tuned for exciting stuff coming up! 👽👽 by @non.local_lab
