nook was featured in Martha Stewart! 🖤🖤

Our Christensen project was featured in a recent article about soapstone countertops, with a showcase of two spaces where the natural stone really shines. Whether it’s the moody home bar or a bold bathroom, soapstone adds a grounded, organic touch that never feels over the top.

Huge thanks to @marthastewart for the feature—swipe to give it a read.

You’ve seen the kitchens, the built-ins, the paint moments, but have we officially met?

I’m Stacy... Founder and Lead Designer at nook design collective. I’ve been in this industry for nearly two decades, but honestly? I’ve been designing since I could hold a paintbrush (shoutout to the 90s crackle-paint era).

From Phoenix roots to Denver homes, from corporate roles to creative freedom, nook was born out of a deep love for making spaces that just feel right.

If you’re new here, swipe through and say hi. If you’re not, you already know I’m about the details, and the and the starbursts, walnut woods, and Eames chairs. 🤍

We’re honored to have the Franklin project grace the pages of the Atomic Ranch Renovation Guide! 💚

This mid-century modern gem in Arapahoe Acres holds deep personal meaning for me, and restoring it with intention was a labor of love. From salvaging original mahogany to reimagining the layout for modern living, this home was all about honoring the past while building for the future.

Thank you @theatomicranch for the thoughtful feature! Swipe to read more about the design process, the history of the neighborhood, and the heart behind this renovation.

Guest bathrooms can handle a little drama. This one gave us a chance to have some fun with funky wallpaper, straight-stacked terracotta tile, a concrete vessel sink and floating cabinetry. There’s a lot happening for a smaller room, but keeping the palette earthy lets all of those pieces play together without feeling like too much.

Sometimes the rooms you spend the least amount of time in are the best ones to take a few chances with.

AI interiors can be really pretty... BUT they also have the luxury of designing for people who apparently own nothing, make no messes, and have zero opinions about keeping an heirloom dining table.

Real homes are a lot more complicated than that, which is also what makes them interesting to design. We have clients with kids and dogs and furniture they love and budgets we need to respect. There are awkward windows we can’t move and rooms that need to do three different jobs depending on the time of day.

We don’t want to design the version of your house where all of that disappears. We want to figure out how to make it work WITH all of it, because that’s your actual life and your home should feel like it.

Somewhere along the way, spa-like became code for beige. We respectfully disagree. 🤩

This primary bathroom still has everything we want from a space that’s meant to feel calm at the end of the day, but there’s plenty happening when you look closer. The high-variation tile runs into the steam shower in a crosshatch pattern, the aggregate flooring adds even more texture, and the floating vanity keeps things feeling lighter.

Then there’s the soaking tub, warm brass, and two very different glass light fixtures that were too good to play a supporting role. Calm can have personality too!

This kitchen used to stop where the dining room began.

We absorbed the former dining room into the kitchen, took down the walls separating it from the living room, and started over with the layout. The range had been sitting on an angled wall facing the living room, appliances were relocated, and suddenly we had the room to give this family the big, open kitchen that made so much more sense for the way they live.

Then came the fun part! Warm wood cabinetry, a seriously generous island, lighter perimeter cabinets, black accents, and plenty of room for everyone to end up in the kitchen... because they always do.

Interior designers, tell us we’re wrong!

Give us permission to rethink the floor plan, take the tile all the way up, mix a few things that technically “shouldn’t” go together, and show you the option you probably wouldn’t have picked on your own. Bonus points if you’re open to a little bit of funky. 😉

Just because the floor plan calls it a living room doesn’t mean it has to stay a living room.

This space wasn’t getting much use before, and once we decided to give the existing dining room over to the kitchen, we had the perfect excuse to rethink it. Now it’s the dining room, with a smaller sitting area and bar tucked behind it, and suddenly one underused room is doing a whole lot more for this family.

It’s a good reminder to pay attention to the rooms you naturally use and the ones you don’t. Sometimes you don’t need more space. You just need to stop using it the way someone decided you should 30 years ago.
And wait until you see the before (swipe till the end)!

Most patios get three good months a year. The best are designed for all twelve.⁣
⁣
The difference isn’t the patio. It’s the wall between it and the house. Leave it fixed and the patio is a fair-weather room you visit. Make it open and the living room, the kitchen, the porch run straight outside, and the patio becomes part of the house you use every day.⁣
⁣
#NanaWall folding glass walls do both jobs. Open, indoor and outdoor become one room. Closed, the panels hold the view and the daylight and keep the inside comfortable through cold and rain, so the backyard doesn’t shut down when summer does.⁣
⁣
Swipe through to see homes where the patio works year-round, and share this with someone planning theirs.⁣

There are few words an interior designer loves hearing more than, “We trust you. Run with it.” That was pretty much the brief for the Santa Ana project. Our clients gave us a general sense of what they liked, but when it came to the execution, they gave us a lot of freedom.

And that doesn’t mean choosing whatever we want. It means getting to know our clients well enough that we can push things a little further without losing sight of whose home it is.

So yes, we brought in the funky wallpaper, the green crosshatch tile, the sculptural lighting, the bold moments, the things that might feel like a leap when you’re looking at one sample by itself, but make complete sense once the whole house comes together.
That kind of trust gave us room to make Santa Ana feel collected, cohesive and very specifically theirs. And it made this one ridiculously fun to design.
