Today we celebrated 10 years of Time Travellers!

Norwich Time Travellers is a group for older people who meet fortnightly to reminisce, discover more about our local history collections and (most importantly!) have a catch up over a cuppa and a biscuit.

The group have been meeting for over a decade, and has grown to over 30 participants. During the pandemic the group switched from in-person meetings to online conference calls, making sure everyone stayed connected during a difficult time.

We even make it out of the library sometimes! Special trips include visits to Norwich Castle, the Plantation Gardens and The Puppet Theatre. Plus at Easter we roll eggs outside The Forum (don’t ask, just a tradition).

Today we celebrated the birthday with delicious homemade cake and savoury treats. Our compere without compare Chris had a ‘Number 10’ themed quiz, we looked through photos taken over the last decade, played pass the parcel, there were speeches and (genuinely hilarious) poems - it was EXTREMELY wholesome ❤️

Happy birthday Time Travellers, here’s to many more! by @norfolklibrariesuk

Just saying, imagine living in a time when you couldn’t borrow 20 books at a time, attend events for children and adults, access computers and WiFi, use study space etc - all for free. Horrifying thought really. by @norfolklibrariesuk

What does a librarian do on holiday? Check out the competition of course!

Your fave Norfolk Libraries social media guy visited St Ives recently, so obviously had to pop by @stiveslibrary.

The first thing we noticed when we arrived in the town was a lovely little library pop-up book sale in a telephone box. Complete with @go_all_in_2026 bunting (of course), and posters for all their events.

The library itself is a lovely community space, with a fab selection of books. We particularly liked the handy 4-book bundles to one person can borrow books and share with their friends!

We rate St Ives Library 10/10, because all libraries are good libraries.

You may remember that Jess, one of our fantastic Library and Information Assistants, decided to use a film camera to take photos of Millennium Library staff working hard packing boxes ahead of our 1.3m refurb. And we shared those photos and people liked them.

Well, turns out Jess took more photos when we were putting books BACK on the shelves! And then she got them developed and sent them to the social media guy. And so now here they are, photos of us just before the Millennium Library reopened. We think they’re pretty neat. by @norfolklibrariesuk

All of us at Norfolk Libraries were so saddened yesterday to see the news that the wonderful Dolly Parton has passed away 💔

Dolly was obviously most famous for her incredible music career, selling over 100 million records and penning all-time classics like ‘Jolene’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’. She also appeared in numerous films, including ‘Steel Magnolias’ and ‘9 to 5’ (which of course featured the hit song of the same name).

Dolly also donated over 300 million books to children across the world, through her Imagination Library scheme - something we as library staff wholeheartedly endorse.

RIP Dolly, you will be missed. Thank you for the music, thank you for your generosity, thank you for your dedication to children’s literacy ❤️ by @norfolklibrariesuk

The boat is back in the Early Years Library at the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, and it has a name!

When we reopened the Millennium Library after an extensive refurbishment, we put our brand new boat into the Early Years Library. However it actually needed a new top adding, so while we had it for opening day we sent it off to be finished. And now it’s back!

On opening day BBC Radio Norfolk asked their listeners what the boat could be called, and one person (we think they were called Steve? We’ll go with Steve) suggested…Read ‘em Ferry! Which we thought was extremely clever. Because Reedham Ferry. Read ‘em. Reedham. It’s clever wordplay and we’re here for it.

So, ‘Read ‘em Ferry’ is back and ready to set sail next time you come and visit us at the Millennium Library 🫡 by @norfolklibrariesuk

Us? Jumping on a trend in order to promote all things library? We would never (not do that because it’s a really good way of promoting all things library).

Swipe for bonus cat content, and yes we know about the typos but we can’t change them now 😅 by @norfolklibrariesuk

There seems to be a rumour going round that library services around the UK have stock and are distributing solar eclipse glasses - and we’ve had a number of enquiries the past couple of days. Unfortunately we DO NOT have glasses available at Norfolk Libraries.

However, as we’re an information service we feel duty bound to offer some information on viewing the eclipse on Wednesday! The key thing to remember is that you should never look directly at the sun, and normal sunglasses aren’t protective enough - it’s best to get hold of certified eclipse glasses with specially designed filters that meet the international safety standard ISO 12312-2:2015(E) (if you can!).

You can also find out more info thanks to the UK Health Security Agency, find them on Insta here: @ukhsa

Anyway, for no other reason other than the fact we quite like gulls, here’s a mock up of a gull wearing glasses we don’t actually sell to watch an eclipse. by @norfolklibrariesuk
