We are so excited/ nervous/ elated to share with you all that from August 22 Nostra will be taking over @__onlys___ in Northcote for an 8 week residency.

This pop up is all about good food, good wine, good friends and good music. The menu will be focused around handmade pastas and seasonal eating whilst all being anchored around cooking over fire serving up dishes 4 nights a week Thursday through Sundays.

Not only that but we’re bringing some of our best friends along for the ride. On Sundays we will host Nostra Famiglia featuring a different special guest chef from the Melbourne dining scene and some of our favourite people to help take over the pans and the playlists for the day. Think big, fun, loud long lunch sessions including names like Joel Baylon (Love Shack ex. The Moon, Aru), Ben Wallace (Embla ex. Romantica), Amy’s Pizza and Ultra Culture with more to be announced soon.

Nostra means “ours” and that’s what this is all about. Friends, family and a place at the table for everyone. We can’t wait to meet you there soon.

We love our bread we love our butter but most of all we just love Butter’s. We cannot tell you how many times this man has gotten us out of a jam or how many times he’s just lifted us up with his big laugh and a bad joke when we thought we were going down in the kitchen (or life for that matter). He’s as much a part of our success story as any of our team and an absolute weapon on the pans.

We are so proud and lucky for him to be joining us this Sunday as part of our Nostra Famiglia series. The man. The myth. The legendary calve muscles.

Bookings are sold out for this Sunday but if you throw us a cheeky DM we can pop you on the cancellation list.

Surprise announce. Sold out for this week already (keep an eye out for cancellations) but we’ve got some absolute kings of Melbourne hospo joining us for this Sunday @glamstafford on the pans and @joeyromeolane on the drinks list bringing some absolute bangers. Halfway in. Halfway to go. We’re four weeks deep into this residency, with four more to come. This week we’re leaning into the change of season (because of course we couldn’t just keep it easy on ourselves).

The Nostra staples you love aren’t going anywhere ❤️ but we’re also bringing in the best of spring while it’s here: tender asparagus, charred spring peas, and some beautiful Skull Island king prawns fresh from the NT.

For something a little bit different today I’d like to introduce you all to our dear friend and staff member Carmelle. She’s been a supporter since day dot of this thing before it was even “Nostra”… just some friends having a very over the top lunch in our backyard. She’s gone on to come to every single pop up we’ve ever done (and there’s been a few) even dragging friends out of town for our regional residencies. In the last year we’ve been lucky enough to have her work the floor with us and some of you would have got to know her incredibly kind, cheeky and funny personality we all love her for. Well it’s her wedding day today to the man of her dreams and an absolute king among men Scott. And as much as we would love to spend our Saturday night with you and your loved ones today is a day to celebrate the love of ours. We will be CLOSED TODAY to raise a glass (and maybe a few more) to some of our absolute favourite people. Come and see us tomorrow instead… we will be open from 12-7 with room for a few walk ins, maybe a little dusty but very full of love ❤️❤️❤️ by @nostra.kitchen

Sundays are quickly becoming our favourite day of the week. Nostra Famiglia or “Our Family” is a Sunday series we were so excited to share with some of our favourite people and @ultraculturecommunity on Sunday September 14 is gonna be a goooood one! Expect some fun ferments and spicy specials as well as the regular Nostra favourites.

We have saved some seats at the table for this one so shoot an email for a booking request to thenostrakitchen@gmail.com, we have very limited space left so being flexible with times will be your best bet and in the mean time go and check out this awesome local family run business. We can’t get enough of their sauces (it literally goes on everything at home) and to boot they are just really good humans who love what they do ❤️❤️❤️

“We are booked out” is really not something we thought we would be saying after the first weekend of our residency but here we are. 7 weeks booked out in 48 hours. A 400 person waitlist in 72 (I’m really sorry for those who are on it… we are doing our best to find you space)

Thankful to those who have been following us at each pop up and especially those who have been here since the start. It’s been a slow process of learning and growing this concept from place to place. Learning about ourselves, our customers, our staff and suppliers. What makes a service, space or a dish great. What makes it suck. Learning what works from the people that we work with and also what doesn’t from their and our own mistakes.

Here’s us before the madness of it all starting and then the few quiet moments we managed to capture in between. We still are a bit in shock at it all. This is the first time we have taken over the full bar, FOH as well as the kitchen… it was a real learning curve and we couldn’t have done it without the help of our friends, family and amazing staff that really showed up opening weekend. And then again when we had to double the size of our team the second week in after the crazy response ❤️

If you got a booking we are so excited to see you and spend some time hopefully getting to know you. If you didn’t then we have left a table or two for walk ins because honestly getting to know the community is one of the best parts about all of this.

@benjamin__wallace kicks off our Nostra Famiglia Sunday series at @__onlys___ on August 31st bringing the HEAT.

Former head chef at @bar_romantica and currently on the tools at the legendary @embla_melbourne, Ben’s not just one of our best mates – he’s also (in our humble opinion) one of the most talented young chefs in Melbourne right now.

The full Nostra menu will be running alongside a special guest chef menu curated by Ben for the day.
