A couple days ago a tiny desk concert I did with my bandmates in @gr8_grandpa came out! This was a make up concert for the one we were intended to do on 4/20 of 2020.. and thank god it happened this way. After 11 years as a band it is heartening and thrilling to have this honor. I am so proud of us.

I made another painting for some @gr8_grandpa artwork! This song is very dear to my heart. The music was written by one of the best, Pat Goodwin, who tasked me with writing the bulk of the lyrics. Here’s what I have to say on that:

There’s a sacred kind of familial love that comes from seeing someone through all of their big life stages. A love that learns and grows not only from showing up and finding security, but from the moments in between- the failures. A hand reaching, fingertips slipping and missing. To reach again, to interlock and lace. We don’t always have a firm grasp, but we can always keep showing up. We can keep reaching. This painting depicts a mysterious purple hued subject taking stock of the proverbial view, watching from afar while also leaning in with patience and curiosity. What the waterfall represents is up to the beholder. May you watch, listen, and think of your own waterfall.

Two years ago today I got top surgery. It’s something I couldn’t really let myself want until I saw that it was obtainable. Once I knew I could do it, it felt like it would never come. Now it’s been 2 years and it feels like any other time warp of just yesterday and one million years ago.

Shout out to @grateful_grandma for explaining the process they were going through at @genderconfirmationcenter (goated), and really opening the door for me. I had someone to look to, and that is no small thing.

I’m putting the full audio from a convo Hunter and I had first @talkhouse up on my substack. May this be helpful or heart warming or whatever you need it to be for you. Sending my love to all trans people everywhere <3

So much has already been said in bios and interviews and in the music itself, so I’ll keep it brief. I am so grateful for these friends. This is more than just a record to me, it’s a coming of age in the end of my 20’s. It’s a redemption arc. It’s a boundless love. It’s a tethering of family. This band is just that to me: family. Love you all so much.
