Want to increase speed and accuracy? Spend some time with this sweetheart of an exercise. Still noticing that my left stick is higher than my right. Weak hand development continues.

Thanks for @meganr_music for trading tips today to help tame my technique.

I support short breaks. I play guitar almost everyday but have found that my recent infatuation with the drums has reduced my guitar playing by a lot. I run through past pieces to see if I can still navigate it with ease and be musical. Some days happen where I actually feel like I can play with more control and expression. Such a funny thing! A small break can be beneficial. I also think the muscles I’m developing through drumming has helped deepen my muscle awareness on the guitar. My ability to recognize unchecked tension has increased.

Today was a very special day in Mr. Quader’s 6th Grade General Music class. It’s the start of their guitar unit!

Conn Jimenez-Knight Sullivan performed some of his recital program pieces. @sungguitar1 joined Conn for two very entertaining selections.

@freeguitars4kids donated guitars through the efforts of @guitarreachbuffalo where UB guitar professor @sungguitar1 volunteers his time to help our students learn how to play the guitar.

Students are eligible to keep the guitars by meeting some very basic requirements. It is our hope that students will want to continue guitar instruction and benefit from the joy of making music.

Let’s show some love to our young musicians!

Noobs (like me) to pros do the Secret Sauce Exercise to warmup and get in shape.

I picked this one up from Instagram pros. The drum community here is so helpful and open to sharing their expertise.

8 on the RIGHT
8 on the LEFT
8 TOGETHER
ALTERNATING

Can you do it on a pillow with zero ability to rebound your stick? Give it a shot.

First ever reel of my hybrid kit. Ditched the practice pad today.

Hybrid Kit Setup:
Ludwig Supraphonic
Zildjian Quick Beats
Yamaha Kick Tower
Alesis SamplePad
MarkBass Amp

Feeling like a mega noob stepping away from the pad and putting a hybrid setup together, but it felt good, so I hit record.

How are we feeling about the balance?

I recorded through my iPhone in the middle of it all. Not super sure if the Alesis hits are traveling through my table mounted phone holder… probably. 🫨

Is this exercise really all that? What makes it so good? Am I even doing it right? I’m getting used to playing on a real snare. It feels snappier and definitely a lot louder.

The drum community here on Instagram has been so helpful. People are so willing to share their expertise. I am grateful. ☺️

Got my right heel off the ground. Feels better but it’s a little harder to control. That will come with time.

Anything else I should be looking at here before my hi-hat arrives?

Another SWEET jam with @greg.hersey and this time with @johnlumpkinmusic too! I had to jump in on this one. So satisfying!

How do I stop my foot from sliding up the pedal. I’ve messed around with might right foot a bit. I’m still trying to play what I hear and feel, but my foot gets in the way.

Experienced drummers and educators, help me and potentially tons of other drum noobs with your expert advice.
