About Shipki La 🇮🇳🪖:-

Hidden in the far reaches of Kinnaur, Shipki La is one of Himachal Pradesh's least explored border destinations. Standing at about 4,024 m+, this historic pass has only recently been opened for Indian tourists, making it one of the newest high-altitude experiences in the state.

Towering above the valley is Reo Purgyil (6,816 m / 22,362 ft) the highest officially recognized mountain in Himachal Pradesh. Unlike Kinner Kailash, Reo Purgyil remains unknown to many travelers despite dominating the skyline.

📍 Approx. 100+ km from Reckong Peo (around 3 / 4hours by road, depending on conditions).

🕘 Tourist entry timings: Generally 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with Aadhaar verification at the check post. Timings may change due to weather or security requirements.

💨 Be prepared for powerful, icy winds throughout the year. Even on sunny days, the wind chill can make the temperature feel much lower, so warm layers are essential.

Some places are famous because everyone has been there.
Shipki La is special because almost no one has. ❤️

CHURDHAR TREK GUIDE - via Nauradhar 🚀

If you’re planning the legendary Churdhar Peak trek from Nauradhar, save this before you go 👇

🥾 Total Distance: ~ 18 KM (one side)
📍 Route: Nauradhar → Shirgul Temple → Churdhar Peak

Or you can directly do:
Nauradhar → Churdhar Peak ( ~3647 meters )
Altitude Gain ( ~ 1600 meters )

⚠️ IMPORTANT:
Near the rhododendron board, make sure you take the RIGHT trail if you’re heading towards Churdhar Peak, and LEFT if you’re going towards Shirgul Temple.

➡️ Right route = Churdhar Peak
⬅️ Left route = Shirgul Temple trail

Most trekkers get confused here, especially during fog or early morning hikes.

⛺ Best Trek Plan ;

📅 Day 1:
Start early from Nauradhar around 7 AM and trek calmly towards Shirgul Temple.
With proper breaks and enough time to enjoy the views, you’ll usually reach by 4 PM.

Hydrate properly, and enjoy the forest sections 🌲

🏠 Stay options near Shirgul:
🛏️ Dorm/inn beds available for around ₹10
🚿 Private rooms with geyser facilities also available at that altitude (a complete lifesaver in cold weather) — ₹500/700

⚠️ Note: Boys & girls are generally not allowed to stay together in rooms or inns, even if married.

📅 Day 2:
Start around 4 AM from Shirgul Temple and hike towards Churdhar Peak.

🌄 Distance from Shirgul to Churdhar Peak: ~1 KM
⏱️ Time: Around 45 minutes

And trust me…
Watching sunrise from Churdhar Peak feels unreal.

After sunrise, descend directly back to Nauradhar.

💧 Water Points:
There are around 3 natural water sources on the route.

But here’s a tip 😭
Don’t fall for the “last water point” drama.
That’s usually a trick to make trekkers stop near cafés. Carry enough water, refill smartly, and keep moving.

🎒 Things You Should Carry:
• Warm layers
• Rain cover / windcheater
• Torch or headlamp for the 4 AM summit push
• Power bank
• Basic medicines
• Good trekking shoes

📊 Difficulty Level:
✅ Easy/Basic → If done in 2 days
⚡ Moderate → If attempting up & down in a sing. by @nothingbutframes

Steep hits different 🛤️ 🧗🏼‍♂️

Winch Camp, perched above Barot Valley at around 2400–2500 meters, was always part of my plan - but I didn’t expected the day to turn into a story like this. 🏔️🌲

While exploring the valley solo, I met two himachali cousins - with that effortless mountain spirit. I asked if they’d join me for an adventure, and without a second thought, they were in. 🚶‍♂️✨

The trail began from Barot and quickly disappeared into dense pine and deodar forests, where silence took over and the real climb began. 🌳

This isn’t just any trail—it’s a traditional route from Barot → Winch Camp → Joginder Nagar, used by locals, shepherds, and even during the British era. 🐑🏔️

A unique part of the trek is that almost half the route follows the old trolley (railway) track, built during the Shanan Hydroelectric Project. 🚞⚙️

As we gained altitude, the terrain turned a little serious. The path became steeper, rougher, and more puzzling.

The toughest stretch was Khooni Ghati, with 75°–90° slopes—less of a trek, more of a climb where every step mattered. ⚠️🏔️

And just when you think the hard part is over at Winch Camp—the real test begins.🛤️

The route towards Joginder Nagar is all downhill, but on such steep terrain that descending becomes even harder than climbing. Every step needs control, balance, and focus. ⬇️😭

There were hardly any people—just us, the forest, and a trail that felt untouched. 🌿

Reaching and crossing Winch Camp felt earned. No crowds, just mountains, silence, and a story we didn’t plan but won’t forget. 🌄🏔️🔥

Some moments in travel stay with you longer than the journey itself.

Raulane was one of those moments.

In the quiet village of Kalpa, beneath the peaks of Kinnaur Kailash, the temple courtyard slowly filled with people. Then the drums began.

Masked dancers stepped forward, their faces hidden beneath layers of wool, ornaments and sacred cloth, moving to rhythms that have echoed through these mountains for generations.

Locals believe the rituals honour the mountain fairies and the deities who protect the valley.

Standing there, watching it unfold, it didn’t feel like a show or a performance.

Just a tradition still living in the mountains, carried quietly by the people of Kinnaur.

And for a moment, I was simply there… witnessing it.

• Sarahan – Historical & Cultural Background 🏔️

Sarahan is a historic town in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, located at about 2,310+ m above sea level and known as the summer capital of the Bushahr Kingdom, while Rampur served as the winter capital. The region was historically connected to the Indo-Tibetan trade route, which influenced its culture and architecture.

• Bhimakali Temple 🛕
Sarahan is famous for the Bhimakali Temple, dedicated to Goddess Bhimakali (a form of Durga) and regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple features traditional Kath-Kuni architecture, built with interlocking wood and stone typical of Himalayan construction.

• Bushahr Palace 🏰
Near the temple complex stands the royal palace of the Bushahr rulers, later buildings associated with the royal family who historically resided near the temple before shifting to other palaces.

• Cultural Importance 🌄
Sarahan reflects Kinnauri and Bushahri traditions, where local deities (devtas) and temple festivals play an important role in community life and regional culture.

• Geography 🗺️
