AI is reshaping the way we search, but SEO is more relevant than ever.

When I first started BlackGrid @blackgridseo in Los Angeles, our mission was simple: help businesses grow beyond traditional marketing using the power of digital. Between 2018–2020, SEO became our backbone, earning us the #1 spot in LA before expanding into Southeast Asia with Malaysia as a key hub.

Today, the rise of AI has sparked a big question: Is SEO still relevant?

How does SEO work Nabil?

I have always been asked how does Search Engine Optimization (SEO) actually work. Whether by my clients, friends and also during interviews, there is always a way for me to explain to people based on their level of understanding. -

However in this video, I gave a simple analogy on how to grasp what SEO is all about and how it works no matter at what level of knowledge you are at. -

SEO is a process of how to make your website more “Popular” in the search engines, like Google, by sending the right signals to their algorithm on what they are looking for to promote your website for FREE. Ofcourse, there are specific work and strategies that we have to implement to get your SEO right. But in essence, it is the work that we do to increase your website’s popularity, authority and relevance for the keywords you want to be found for. -

Two days. 30 CEOs. One question: can your business run without you?

Just wrapped Module 5 of the NextLevel CEO Programme by SME Corp Malaysia 🇲🇾 : Innovation, Disruptive Technology & Digital Transformation.

In the room: halal food manufacturers, O&G contractors, solar EPCs, satellite IoT, robotics, aviation training and more. Revenue from over RM3M to over RM100M. Very different businesses, same problem showing up in almost every worksheet: too many decisions still go through one phone.

So we didn’t spend two days talking about AI. We spent them on paper.

Day 1: where are you, honestly. What runs the business today, what’s on fire, where you sit on the AI Readiness Grid. Then disruption by industry, three new ways to make money, the six technology stacks that actually matter, and what is possible right now with AI (concepts first, tools second).

Day 2: where are you going. Target operating model, SMART self-assessment, a 1-3 year roadmap priced with real numbers, a 90-day action plan, and every CEO drew their own “Tuesday morning” screen: the six numbers they want to see every day, and where that data lives today. For most of the room the answer was “nobody knows” three times. That is Phase 1.

What I’ll remember most: the moment we put the CEO command centre prototype on screen that covers all the important metrics a CEO would need to see/decide daily with examples of specific industries and half the room said “I need that”, and the other half said “I need that but I don’t have the data for it yet.” Both are right. The order matters.

There are moments that remind you why all the hard work is worth it.

Last week was one of those moments.

We officially launched SingleInterface (@singleinterface.id )Malaysia at the iconic Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Merdeka 118, surrounded by clients, partners, friends, and industry leaders who believe in the future of AI-powered hyperlocal marketing.

What many people didn’t see was everything that happened behind the scenes. This event came together in just over a week, with countless calls, planning sessions, and teamwork across Malaysia and Indonesia. It was intense, but seeing it all come to life made every late night worthwhile.

As the Master Reseller for SingleInterface in Malaysia, BlackGrid Digital @blackgridseo is incredibly proud to lead this journey alongside our reseller partner, Arbell Parc. This is more than launching a platform. It is about helping businesses build stronger local visibility, connect with customers more effectively, and grow smarter with AI.

A huge thank you to the amazing SingleInterface Indonesia team, @yennystutts , @unnagnita , Elké, as well as Punit, Manish, and the HQ team for your trust, support, and partnership. We couldn’t have done this without you.

It’s been a while since I posted.

Between growing BlackGrid Digital @blackgridseo , serving our clients, managing teams and working on new ideas, life has been moving at full speed.

One thing that has stayed constant over the years is my love for motorsports.

People often ask why I enjoy racing so much.

For me, it’s not just about going fast.

It’s about focus.

When you are on track, nothing else matters. No emails. No meetings. No notifications. Just you, the kart, and the next corner.

Ironically, the lessons I learn on track are the same ones that help me in business:

* Stay calm under pressure.
* Commit to your decisions.
* Learn from mistakes quickly.
* Consistency beats occasional brilliance.

A few laps every now and then is enough to reset the mind and remind me why I love competing. Not against others, but against the person I was yesterday.

Finished with a personal best (PB- 1:36:394) time last night, but the real win was getting a chance to switch off and recharge before another busy week ahead.

Honored to be featured in the Britishpedia @britishpediabybph Book of Successful People in Malaysia & Singapore 2025 (7th Edition). Still feels a bit surreal knowing this book will be sitting in public libraries and universities… and my face will be in it. No pressure at all, right? 😅

When the Britishpedia team reached out, I was genuinely humbled. To be included alongside incredible personalities in business and public life is something I’ll never take lightly. It’s going to be a resource for many, and I’m grateful to contribute even a small part to it.

My beginnings were very humble. BlackGrid @blackgridseo @blackgrid.my started 10 years ago in my tiny home office in Los Angeles, built on nothing but grit, Google, and a dream. I had no investors, barely any funds, just the determination to survive one month at a time.

This recognition isn’t just mine. It belongs to every client who trusted BlackGrid, every team member who believed in the mission, and every challenge that pushed me to grow.

What an incredible 2-days at the ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs Carnival @aseanyec 🇲🇾

Grateful to have spent the week surrounded by inspiring founders, creatives, and leaders from across ASEAN, who are all united by a shared belief that entrepreneurship can shape the region’s future.

It was an honour to share my thoughts as a panel speaker, discussing how branding, storytelling, and creativity can help ASEAN businesses build global relevance and influence.

Landed in KL & headed straight to grab today’s copy of NST (1/9/25) @nstonline , which highlights how AI tools are transforming Malaysia’s SEO market.

This is a big milestone for BlackGrid @blackgridseo , as the company is being recognised by a Tier-1 media outlet which underscores the importance of SEO and the impact we’ve been making in this space.

After 10 years in the industry, I can confidently say these are the most exciting times for businesses to grow, especially with the right strategies and tools in place.
