20 yrs ago today I was diagnosed with Stage 3C endometrial cancer. Today, I am so grateful for all those who helped me survive an 8 hour surgery, 6 months of chemo (8 hours at a time) and 6 wks of daily radiation. In no particular order, they are: my friend & acupuncturist Chris @homegrownweb who taught me to surf between chemo rounds; my beautiful friend Kim @kim_cowperthwaite who flew across the country to give me a boost; my award winning gyno Dr Heather Terbell (Castle Connolly’s One of the Leading Doctors in the Nation), Gyno Oncologist Dr. Hogan, @prjaco1 of Sansum Santa Barbara, my extremely kind oncologist Dr Mukul Gupta “We’re bringing out the big guns, Nancy”, @mattpesendian_healingarts whose Qigong classes got me back on my bike, @hoddess who called daily to check on me, Susan Sallade who taught me watercolor painting and took me for walks while I recovered, (not telling me SHE had breast cancer herself; R.I.P), Dr. Henry Han, whose Chinese herbs may have saved my life; my orange tiger Homer, who laid on my chest every morning sending me healing. But the biggest thanks go to my WONDERFUL husband @dolatin who was with me every step of the way and never complained once, all the while teaching at several schools and managing a household with lost income. And, he was brave enough to learn to surf with me. (See wipeout pic) Not bad for a boy from da ‘Burgh who’d never seen the ocean til his twenties.
