Congratulations to Darcy Busbridge, who has recently been selected as the 2027 School Captain of St Joseph’s College, Banora Point.

This is an incredible achievement for Darcy, who will become only the second Aboriginal School Captain in the history of the College. His selection is a significant milestone and a proud moment for Darcy, his family and the wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community at St Joseph’s College.

Darcy has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership throughout his schooling, having been involved in the Student Representative Council (SRC) each year. As well as attending the NRL Indigenous Youth Summit earlier in the year. He is passionate about creating an environment where all students feel connected, supported, included and safe.

Darcy’s achievement is a fantastic example of strong young Aboriginal leadership and representation. Through his new role, he hopes to be a positive role model for younger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and continue supporting and representing all students across the College.

Congratulations Darcy on this well-deserved achievement!

“Being selected as School Captain means a lot to me. I’m proud to represent my school and my culture, and I hope I can be someone younger students can look up to. I want to make sure everyone at school feels included, supported and like they belong.” - Darcy Busbridge by @nrls2w

Narara Valley High Student Lilly Fink Gains Global Experience in India!

The NRL School to Work program is proud to celebrate the achievements of Lilly Fink from Narara Valley High School, who recently embarked on an incredible international learning experience as part of her first year of a Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Newcastle.

Between May and June 2026, Lilly travelled to India to participate in an innovative internship program that challenged students to develop real-world business solutions while making a positive impact on local communities.

As part of the internship, Lilly worked with a company that provides Airbnb-style accommodation in rural villages. The project focused on identifying innovative ways to improve the business while helping village communities generate sustainable income through tourism. Lilly and her fellow students collaborated on developing practical strategies that balanced business growth with community benefit, gaining valuable experience in entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and sustainable business practices.

A highlight of the trip was the opportunity to experience authentic village life firsthand. Lilly spent time living in rural communities, visiting local farms, and learning about the daily lives, customs, and traditions of the people she met. This immersive experience provided valuable cultural insights and helped deepen her understanding of how tourism can create meaningful economic opportunities for communities.

Reflecting on the experience, Lilly described it as an unforgettable journey that expanded both her personal and professional horizons. The internship allowed her to apply classroom learning in a global setting while developing important skills in teamwork, communication, and innovation.

The NRL School to Work program congratulates Lilly on embracing such a unique opportunity and demonstrating the confidence, curiosity, and determination that will serve her well in her future career. Her journey is a fantastic example of how education can open doors to exciting experiences around the world and inspire young people to think globally while making a positive difference locally. by @nrls2w

NRL School to Work Pathways Cup 🏆

Our School to Work clubs went head-to-head for the first ever NRL School to Work Pathways Cup, bringing plenty of competition, teamwork and club pride to the day.

A huge congratulations to our first-ever Pathways Cup winners | Campbell team!

With more than 60 students and 15 stakeholders coming together, it was a great opportunity for our students to connect, compete and explore their future pathways.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Kimberwalli for their incredible support before, during and after the event. From assisting with the planning and coordination of the day, sharing their knowledge and community connections, allowing us to use their fields and facilities, and generously donating food, equipment and supplies, Kimberwalli played a vital role in making the inaugural Pathways Cup a success.

We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support and collaboration between Kimberwalli and the NRL School to Work program. Their commitment to creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people continues to make a meaningful impact, and we are proud to work alongside an organisation that shares our vision of supporting the next generation.

A special thank you also to the Panthers Foundation for championing this initiative, as well as our food suppliers, stakeholders, clubs and community partners who invested their time, resources and expertise into creating meaningful opportunities for our students.

The first-ever Pathways Cup is officially in the books, and what a way to start a new tradition for the School to Work program.

Now the question is... who will be taking home the trophy next year? 👀🏆

CAREERS DAY @storm

On August 7th, the School to Work Program at Melbourne Storm hosted its annual Careers Day at AAMI Park Stadium. Students from across the Melbourne metropolitan area came together to learn about the range of opportunities available to them through the program’s network of corporate partners.
The event opened with an Acknowledgment of Country delivered by Top 4 Youth Summit Ambassador George Griffiths from Gleneagles Secondary College followed by a Didgeridoo performance from Lachie Hill.

Throughout the day, students rotated through a speed-networking format, engaging directly with representatives from each participating business. Companies and universities brought creativity to the occasion, setting up interactive stalls where students could explore different organisations, discover employment pathways, and get a feel for the application process.

A big thank you to Amaziah Murgha for taking the time to share his personal story with students — including his journey of moving to Melbourne to chase his childhood dream of playing NRL.

School to Work Year 12 students from @kincumberhighschool recently participated in the Boots for Brighter Futures program through @culturalchoiceassociation. The students presented the @sydneyroosters players with their playing boots which had been painted by the students. Students had the chance to talk about their design with the players and the story behind their art. The players then wore the boots this past weekend and will auction them off for charity.
