Sometimes everything looks picture perfect on the outside, when really you’re struggling with countless battles in your head and riding a roller coaster of emotions internally. I think this year in particular has made it extra challenging for most people.

September is National Suicide Month and I hesitated posting about it; but I thought it was important to share. I have never discussed this topic publicly, but I also wanted to be part of the conversation, especially when it comes to normalizing and destigmatizing it. Society labels it as weak, selfish or attention seeking for even thinking it; but people shouldn’t feel scared or ashamed to talk about these thoughts and feelings.

Alongside a myriad of humans around the world, I’ve had my own personal struggles with these thoughts and mental health issues since I was a teenager. It can lead to self harm and take you down a very dark and destructive path; ones I am all too familiar with. Fortunately, I was/am blessed to have a strong, solid, kind, loving, understanding support system.

For those that don’t, the outcome can be catastrophic. I’ve known a lot of death in my life for various reasons, and a few were because someone chose to end their life. Those were some of the hardest to understand, find peace or cope with; especially when you’re so young. I know the thoughts can feel overwhelming and the pain unbearable; but it will pass, and it does get better.

I am not an expert and have no intention of giving any medical advice on the matter; but I just wanted to share my personal pov. If you or someone you know is struggling - there is hope, there are people that can and want to help, and there are places that have information and resources for you/them. Stumbled upon this beautiful @badgleymischka dress from @curethrift and when I tried it on, I knew it was meant for a special occasion. 🥂🍾

Kept the accessories simple, but significant and special. Wore a diamond necklace SDB bought for me on our first Valentine’s Day (many moons ago), a snake ring that I loved and he surprised me w/ in Venice (it was during our trip to Italy where we got engaged in Cinque Terre), and finally his mother’s opal bracelet that she wore almost daily. 💍🐉

The true heroes of the day were my @tibi booties, couldn’t zip them up c/o the third trimester + summer heat, but they supported me and my pregnant feet for 4 hours!! 🪭👠

I am very aware of my privilege and grateful that SDB and I are blessed to have financial stability and food security. The pandemic has caused a tremendous amount of food insecurity for people and families around the globe, the country and in our very own neighborhoods. ⚠️

I had the opportunity to volunteer with the @northbrooklynangels this week in preparation for the holiday. Sharing space with kind, caring and compassionate people while doing something to help others and your community, is truly a joyous, gratifying and optimistic experience! Looking forward to serving again in any capacity. ✨
.
If you have time and are able, I highly recommend it. If you don’t have the time, which I realize is a luxury for some, then please consider donating food or money instead if you can spare it. Love and kindness is infectious and that is something we need to spread more of these days (and not covid-19). 🌻
