Via Ferrata translates to ‘iron path’, and that’s exactly what you will be following on this one-mile 1085ft elevation gain ‘hike’ up (and over) Nelson Rocks.

The climb isn’t even the most exposed part of this experience…because that would be the 200ft long, 150ft high suspension bridge you cross mid route.

You don’t need any gear or previous climbing experience. Your guide (shout out to our amazing guide: @tmossvoss ) gets you kitted up and walks you through using the equipment before you start. Participants must be at least 13 years old and weigh between 88 and 265 pounds. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water (and snacks)….and maybe a paper bag for deep breaths during the climb 😅

Just another perfectly normal day at WV Living… dangling off the side of a mountain 😅⛰️

We took on the @nrocks_wv Via Ferrata in Pendleton County, which sounded like a GREAT idea when our feet were still firmly planted on the ground.

One mile of steel rungs and cables, more than 1,000 feet of elevation gain, some truly spectacular views, and several moments of reminding ourselves that looking down was completely optional. 😂

But WOW. What an experience. There’s nothing quite like seeing the Potomac Highlands from the side of a rock face—with a great guide, a little courage, and plenty of nervous laughter along the way.

Would we do it again? Absolutely.
Would our legs like a word? Also absolutely.

We spent the day climbing the @nrocks_wv Via Ferrata in Pendleton County—one mile of steel rungs, cables, towering rock fins, and views that somehow make you forget just how high up you are. (Almost 😅)

And if dangling off the side of a mountain isn’t quite your speed, NROCKS also offers a canopy zipline tour for a milder way to get your adrenaline—and those mountain views.

Good/Bad news; We are almost entirely booked for weekend tours through the end of October!

We still have plenty of space on Via Ferrata tours on most weekdays and can still fit in a few solo travelers for some weekend dates, so visit us online or give us a call today or you might need to wait another year to experience Fall Foliage on the coolest Via Ferrata in North America!
