At last week’s Logan Awards Dinner, the @nscdapa honored three outstanding individuals who have made a lasting impact in the Philadelphia region and Pennsylvania: the legacy of Esther Ann McFarland, Councilmember Kendra Brooks, and Karin Wulf, PhD. Proceeds from the Dinner provide critical support for the preservation of Stenton and for History Hunters, the museum’s award-winning educational program for Philadelphia schoolchildren. We’re especially grateful to our Presenting Sponsors, Fiduciary Trust and the George C. and Esther Ann McFarland Foundation. We can never say thank you enough to everyone who joined us at this beautiful celebration to support our work at Stenton. We can’t do it without you! Visit https://www.stenton.org/supporters for a complete list of sponsors.

It was a lovely day at Latimer Street HQ!

New Dame Cora Pluta discovered a portrait of her great-grandmother, Elizabeth Battles Newlin, on the President's wall.

Dr. Glenda Goodman shared the stories of two female amateur muscians from her book "Cultivated By Hand" and brought along her student to play live selections of music from the Early National Republic era.

And it was a stellar day for lunch in the garden!

The PA Dames visted HSP twice last week for two successful programs!

"Out of the Archives" For the Common Good event on Wed. August 26:

Pictured here Stenton's Laura Keim and HSP's Justina Barrett discussing documents relating to Polly Norris Dickinson. (Polly's episode had its public premiere!)

And that small pocket diary? That's where Deborah Norris Logan wrote about Dinah's death. We get chills just looking at it!

"History on the Street" Sat Aug 30:

Rachel Corma shared Stenton and stories of Dinah with NHD Philly teachers and students.

The Philadelphia Film Society, the @nscdapa, and @stentonmuseum present For the Common Good: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation — a docuseries, directed by Andrew Ferrett, bringing to life the stories of pioneering women who helped shape the United States, but whose names rarely appear in history books.

The evening will feature four episodes from the series, including the stories of Dinah, who celebrates 250 years of requesting and gaining her freedom; Elin Kunders, a German Quaker immigrant known as the “Mother of Germantown”; and Elizabeth Coates Paschall, a healer and community pillar in colonial Philadelphia. A fourth episode featuring Margaret Mattson, a settler of New Sweden accused of witchcraft by the newly arrived British government, will make its Philadelphia public premiere.
