Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day! Today we are celebrating the many Indigenous peoples and cultures across the nation. Our post features quilts from an exhibition by the National Museum of the American Indian.

Quilting in Native communities evolved from traditions of using animal hides and tapa cloth into practices shaped by forced assimilation. However, Native communities adapted quilting to their own customs, including sharing fabric as gifts and honoring individuals, and today the tradition continues to connect generations.
