Numbing cream ≠ numbing spray ‼️

And no, they are not interchangeable. This is where a lot of people get it wrong and honestly, we get why. Nobody explains this properly.

So let’s fix that. 👇

Numbing cream >>> goes on before your session, on intact skin, wrapped in cling film. It needs at least 45 min. (ideally 90 min.) to absorb deep enough to block the pain and can last 3 to 5 hours depending on your skin. But the moment tattooing starts and your skin is broken? Cream is done.

Here is why. Cream works by slowly penetrating the intact skin barrier. Once that barrier is broken, it no longer absorbs properly. It gets mixed with blood and plasma, diluted, and never reaches the nerve endings. It can also enter the bloodstream too quickly through open skin, which is not safe. So at that point it is not just ineffective, it is something you want to avoid entirely.

This is where >>> numbing spray comes in.

Spray is formulated completely differently, specifically designed to absorb through open broken skin and work directly on exposed nerve endings. It kicks in fast (in about 15 min.) and can be reapplied multiple times throughout your session.

Cream before. Spray during. Two different products. Two different purposes. Both essential if you want a comfortable session start to finish.

Almost a decade of running a tattoo studio >>> here’s the breakdown so you actually come prepared:

🔴 MOST painful areas -> Face, head & scalp, neck, throat, armpits, ribs, sternum, spine, elbows, knees, hands & fingers, feet & toes.

🟡 Medium painful areas -> Chest, stomach, inner arm, inner thigh, back of thigh, calf, shoulder blade, lower back.

🟢 Least painful areas -> Outer forearm, upper arm, outer thigh, upper back, bum, shoulder.

Cling film is not optional. It’s doing actual work, AND if you’ve ever applied numbing cream without wrapping it with cling film and wondered why it barely did anything, this is why.

Here’s what’s happening >>> numbing cream needs to absorb deep into the skin to block the nerve signals responsible for pain. Left open to air, the cream dries out, loses heat, and sits on the surface WITHOUT penetrating properly. That’s wasted product and a wasted session.

Wrap it in cling film and everything changes. 🙂‍↕️ The wrap traps body heat against the skin, creates a warm moist layer, and forces the active ingredients to absorb faster and deeper. That’s NOT a tip. That’s the whole mechanism. Without it, you’re doing half the job.
