Almost a decade of running a tattoo studio >>> here’s the breakdown so you actually come prepared:

🔴 MOST painful areas -> Face, head & scalp, neck, throat, armpits, ribs, sternum, spine, elbows, knees, hands & fingers, feet & toes.

🟡 Medium painful areas -> Chest, stomach, inner arm, inner thigh, back of thigh, calf, shoulder blade, lower back.

🟢 Least painful areas -> Outer forearm, upper arm, outer thigh, upper back, bum, shoulder.

For the most and medium painful areas, use @numbd_ numbing cream before your session to take the edge off, and their rescue spray mid session if needed. Or honestly, use it regardless if pain just isn’t your thing. No judgment.

No sugar coating.

FIRSTLY -> Most people don’t even realise they’re doing them.

1. Treating it like it’s “off limits”. People are sometimes scared to even wash it in the shower, BUT your tattoo still needs gentle cleaning, even when it feels super fresh or weird.

NOTE: Your first water clean should happen as soon as you remove the tattoo cover.

2. Smothering it in cream. ☹️ More moisturiser doesn’t mean better healing. We’ve seen people basically coat it like butter and wonder why it feels off. Too much product can clog the skin and slow healing down.

3. “Just a little scratch” moment. ❌❗️That itchy peeling stage gets everyone. One quick scratch and suddenly it’s not healing as smoothly anymore. Scratching can pull healing skin away too early and leave patchy areas behind.

4. Back in the gym too soon. Heavy sweating and friction in the early healing stages don’t mix well with a fresh tattoo.

5. ‘Sunny day? Let’s go out.’ mindset. Direct UV exposure on a fresh tattoo can affect healing more than people realise. Cover it and avoid sun.

6. Using random skincare. Anything scented, heavy, or just whatever’s in the bathroom usually makes it worse, not better. Ask your tattooist what to use. A decent artist will usually tell you anyway without you even needing to ask.
