Bow Arts is delighted to announce a solo exhibition by Bhajan Hunjan. 'Bhajan Hunjan: speaking through materials' will open on 9th October 2026 at the Nunnery Gallery.

Guided by a unique visual language of line, rhythmic pattern and symbols, Hunjan’s work pushes the boundaries of meaning as well as materials, often speaking powerfully for women and diaspora communities. Drawing on her Kenyan upbringing, Sikh heritage and experience of moving to the UK in the 1970s, Hunjan’s work plays an important role in the history of women artists.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a new publication supported by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art @paulmelloncentr celebrating Hunjan’s extensive work collectively in print, and including newly commissioned essays to tell the stories behind her works, as well as commenting on the important contribution she has made to British art.

The exhibition will run from Friday 9th October – Sunday 20th December 2026.

Visit our website at Bow Arts to find out more about 'Bhajan Hunjan: speaking through materials'.

That’s a wrap! 🎬

‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’, a newly commissioned film by artist Laisul Hoque, has now drawn to a close at Grand Union. 🚗

The film, developed in partnership with Bow Arts, offered a glimpse into the lives of Birmingham’s Bangladeshi community, revealing the artist’s own understanding of the migrant experience in navigating a new city.

Through conversations in cars and phone calls from home, ‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’ captured the ‘stories, histories and experiences’ of Birmingham’s Bengali community. 🎞

A huge thank you to @brendanpcormier (Chief Curator, V&A East), Alex Needham (Arts Editor, The Guardian), Marine Tanguy (Founder, @MTArtAgency) and @m.williams.gamaker (artist) for a successful day of discussions for the East London Art Prize 2027. Stay tuned for the announcement of the shortlist in late October.

Each cycle, the East London Art Prize supports a cohort of 12 artists, through exhibiting their work in the ELAP shortlist show, career development support with grants for mentoring and training, and various paid opportunities through the ELAP event programme.

We're excited to see how this cohort of artists develop, and make the most of the opportunities ahead of them. Thank you to Minerva for their crucial support of the Prize.
