🏳️‍🌈✨ We are back, we are proud, and our colors are shining brighter than ever! Today marks our second year raising the Pride flag with Grace Episcopal Church in Nutley, declaring loud and clear that our vibrant, resilient queer community is woven into the very fabric of this town.

Our visibility is our power. Watching this flag wave high for a second consecutive year is a beautiful, defiant victory for joy, authenticity, and love. It honors where we’ve been and shines a brilliant light on where we are going.

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder once again with @graceepiscopalnutley is an absolute honor. Thank you for your fierce, enduring allyship and for proving that your open doors and big hearts are a permanent sanctuary for our community. 🌈🏳️‍🌈✨🤍 taken in Grace Episcopal Church in Nutley by @nutleypride

Help Nutley Pride Build a Lasting Legacy:
The Yanticaw Park Pride Bench
Shedding a light on our incredible LGBTQ+ community and allies in Nutley has been an absolute honor. Watching Nutley Pride grow—fueled by the endless support of our neighbors—has been nothing short of heartwarming.

Nutley Pride is rooted in community and in creating safe, welcoming spaces where everyone can freely be who they are and celebrate who they love. For years, we have dreamed of establishing a permanent space in town for our community—a place of peace, whether you need a quiet moment to reflect, a warm conversation with a favorite person, or a quiet spot to remember a loved one.

Now, we are asking for your help to turn that dream into a reality. We are fundraising to donate a permanent park bench in Yanticaw Park—a lasting gift to our town from the past, present, and future LGBTQ+ community.

This bench will stand as a beacon of safety, belonging, and visibility. It carries a simple, clear message: we are here, and we aren't going anywhere.

Our community has shown up time and time again to build a brighter, more inclusive town—brick by brick. We know that the very bricks of our movement were laid by those who fought for our rights at Stonewall, and we carry that history forward with pride.

Donated in partnership with Nutley Pride, the bench will feature a simple phrase rich in history:
“A friend of Dorothy”
It’s a subtle nod to our history, a quiet nod of solidarity, and an invitation to belong.

Help us leave a legacy in Nutley that is rooted in love, safety, and community. Every dollar helps bring this permanent safe haven to life in Yanticaw Park. Thank you for standing with us! taken in Nutley, New Jersey by @nutleypride

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11th, we take this moment to remember the thousands of lives cut short and honor the heroism of those who rushed toward danger. The aftermath of that tragedy showed us the true depth of American compassion and solidarity—a spirit carried on today by the Ray Pfeifer Foundation. Dedicated to assisting 9/11 first responders facing cancer and catastrophic illnesses, the foundation stands as a powerful reminder of the selfless care and unwavering support we should strive to practice every single day.

FDNY firefighter Ray Pfeifer exemplified that selfless spirit. Ray fought tirelessly for others both on the scene and long after. Even while battling the 9/11-related cancer that took his life in 2017, he was a driving force behind extending the Zadroga Act, securing critical healthcare coverage through 2090 for more than 75,000 first responders and survivors.

Today, the Ray Pfeifer Foundation carries on his legacy by helping 9/11 first responders with medical needs not covered by insurance. Ray lived by a simple motto: “Do the right thing, even when no one is looking.”

As members of the LGBTQ+ community, we know that true community means looking out for one another without hesitation. That is the standard we strive to uphold in everything we do.

In that spirit, we are proud to share that we have made a donation to the Ray Pfeifer Foundation to support our 9/11 first responders. In the upcoming days, we ask you to join us in honoring the fallen, thanking our heroes, and bringing a little extra warmth and kindness to those around you.

Join us in helping those in need: https://theraypfeiferfoundation.org by @nutleypride

Why “A Friend of Dorothy”? Here’s the history behind our Nutley Pride bench dedication🌈✨🧚Long before rainbow flags hung in storefronts or local proclamations were read, queer people relied on hidden networks to survive. Inscribing “A Friend of Dorothy” pays direct homage to that history of subversion, resilience, and solidarity, honoring generations who risked everything just to find one another. Historically a whisper used for safety in the shadows, placing this phrase permanently on a public bench turns a secret code inside out—transforming a tool of self-defense into an enduring monument of pride, visibility, and sanctuary. In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy’s journey was defined by gathering a band of outcasts searching for courage, heart, and wisdom, offering them unconditional acceptance along the way. “Friend of Dorothy” isn’t just a nod to LGBTQ+ heritage; it is a living reminder that our local community is at its strongest when we embrace every neighbor who feels different, misplaced, or in need of refuge.

If you have yet to donate to our Nutley Pride Bench for Yanticaw Park, we hope you find power in this message🌈✨ taken in Nutley, New Jersey by @nutleypride
