So I booked @hone.health . They came to my door: 50+ biomarkers, no waiting room, just me in my robe before the kids woke up.

My results: high cholesterol and a thyroid that’s been up and down for years.

What every mom should ask for 👇

🩸 Thyroid: TSH is just the first screen. Ask for Free T4 + TPO antibodies too.
🩸 After babies: ferritin, lipid panel, and A1C if you had gestational diabetes.
🩸 Timing: ask what time of day and what cycle day to test.

I’ve spent years telling moms to put themselves first. This time, I listened.

Your turn. Hone is linked in my bio 🤍

💬 Which one did you not know?

Only 12% of U.S. adults are proficient in health literacy. The rest of us nod at the doctor, then google it in the car.

Health literacy is your ability to find, understand and use health information to make decisions for yourself and the people you love.

It’s not an IQ test. It’s a life skill, and the data says it’s slipping:

→ 28% of U.S. adults now read at the lowest level measured, up from 19% in 2017
→ 56% of Gen Z use TikTok for health advice
→ Low health literacy is linked to more ER visits, fewer screenings and more medication mix-ups

Swipe for the 4-question vibe check to run on any health post you see, plus your Rx for your next doctor’s appointment.

Save this for your next appointment. Send it to the friend who self-diagnoses on TikTok at 2am.

Tell us in the comments: what’s one thing a doctor said that you nodded at but didn’t actually understand?

Care is culture.

At the center of WORTH was a conversation about Black maternal health and capital.

Nuuma’s gathering on Martha’s Vineyard brought together conversations around fertility, nutrition, birth, postpartum care, doula access, employer benefits, investment, and policy.

For The Social Butterflies Events, producing WORTH meant creating the setting for those conversations to take place. We’re proud to be part of events that make space for people to come together, listen, connect, and share their perspectives.

Still taking in what happened in this room. 🤎

During UNGA week in New York City, we brought a piece of Zanzibar to New York for Sauti ya Mama: The Mother’s Voice.

I had the honor of MCing the afternoon and moderating a powerful conversation, guiding a room of funders, advocates, global health leaders, community builders and storytellers.

And two beautiful things launched in that room.

✨ Zanzibar Magazine, Volume 2!

✨ #MwanzoWake, a campaign focused on the first 1,000 days of life, co-developed by @wajamama_zanzibar and the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation, and championed by Her Excellency Mama Mariam Mwinyi, First Lady of Zanzibar!

Our incredible panel, Hon. Dr. Zeyana Hamid, Isra Chaker, João Abreu, Esther Wang and Khadija Shariff, reminded us of something simple:

Mothers already have a voice. Our responsibility is to listen, amplify and make sure what we hear moves us to act.

To @wajamama_zanzibar, thank you for trusting @nuumacare to help creatively shape this experience. 🤎

And to @zanzibarmagazine, Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation, @everypregnancy, The Beginnings Fund and Segal Family Foundation, thank you for bringing this vision to life.

Thank you to our speakers, panelists, every person who joined us, and @bryantparkgrill for giving these stories such a beautiful home.

Sauti ya Mama. The Mother’s Voice.

From Zanzibar to New York, may her voice travel even further. 🇹🇿🤎

We’re honoured to introduce the speakers, panelists and moderator who will help shape the conversation tomorrow at Sauti Ya Mama 🙌🏽

We’re deeply grateful for the response to this gathering - the luncheon is at full capacity - and for every person choosing to spend the afternoon with us!

We’re looking forward to an immersive and connecting experience: stories, live music, an exhibition, discussion, and a room full of people bringing different perspectives to women’s health and the future of care in Zanzibar. What better way to spend a Tuesday in New York?!

We cannot wait to welcome everyone tomorrow and to share more from the day with our audience! (This is your PSA to stay very tuned 😎) See you there! 🔜

We’re in New York! And next week we’re proud to be hosting Sauti ya Mama - The Mother’s Voice.

It’s going to be a live exhibition accompanied by a range of speakers, great food and great company.

Hosted by our Founder & CEO @nafisa.jiddawi and @zanzibarmagazine, Sauti ya Mama will bring Zanzibar’s mothers, frontline health leaders and maternal health solutions into the room and asking what it will take to move from stories to sustained action.

It is not a story of ‘saving Zanzibar’ - it is a call to invest in what Zanzibar is already building.

The gathering will also mark the launch of @zanzibarmagazine ‘s Volume 2: ‘Blue Economy’, alongside conversations about locally led maternal health, partnership and the resources needed to take proven solutions further.

We’re proud to be in collaboration with @everypregnancy, @maishaborafdn, The Beginnings Fund and @nuumacare and are so grateful to our sponsors: @baweisland, @bryantparkgrill, @segalfoundation, @escapadezanzibar and @robinbatistazanzibar for helping make this occasion be the best it could be.

We cannot wait 🙌🏽 Spaces are filling up. The event is by invitation only - visit the link in our bio to request an invitation 🔗

P.S., If you’re in New York for the UN General Assembly High-Level Week next week, please reach out - we would love to connect.

We’re heading into an exciting time, with #UNGA81 in New York happening next week!

This will be WAJAMAMA’s second time attending the UN General Assembly - and this year, our Founder & CEO @nafisa.jiddawi will be hosting a side event: Sauti ya Mama - ‘The Mother’s Voice’ on 22 September.

This will be a luncheon bringing Zanzibar’s mothers, frontline leaders and maternal health solutions to the table and will feature the launch of @zanzibarmagazine ‘s ‘Volume 2 - Blue Economy’ issue.

Sauti ya Mama is hosted by WAJAMAMA and @zanzibarmagazine, in collaboration with @everypregnancy , @maishaborafdn, The Beginnings Fund and @nuumacare .

We’re incredibly grateful to the partners and generous sponsors helping us bring this gathering to life.

The event is by invitation only. To request an invite, please visit the link in our bio.

We’re looking forward to bringing Zanzibar’s voices, progress and possibilities for maternal health into the global conversation!

New York, here we come! 🍎🙌🏽

As a survivor of Black Maternal Health disparities- I shared my birth story on stage for the very first time while I was at Martha’s Vineyard for the @nuumacare event and it was honestly such a magical moment of not only release, but also deep healing from the scariest moment of my life✨

Most people don’t know this but I nearly died the day I had my daughter because of pre-eclampsia and HEELP syndrome. It was a traumatic experience but one thing about me is that I am divinely guided, protected and truly no weapon formed against me shall ever ever prosper🙏🏽

WORTH was never just about who was on the stage.

It was about who was in the room.

The conversations between sessions. The introductions that turned into ideas. The founders finding each other. The investors listening differently. The healthcare leaders, advocates, operators, and storytellers realizing their work is more connected than we often make space to see.

We brought together a community around one shared belief: women’s health is not a niche issue. It is an economic one.

And especially when it comes to Black maternal health, changing outcomes will require more than one sector, one company, or one moment.

It will take a room full of people willing to see their role in what comes next.

This was the community that showed up for WORTH.

And we’re only getting started.
