This is a little autumnal picture of me and my roommates. We moved in together 2 years ago last month, when I was in one of the worst spirals of my life. These two were already two of my best friends, and were already considered family, but after a year of living together, we became closer than I thought I could be to people. They saw me fully, and I saw them. We cooked for each other, and laughed, and cried at 2 am after too many drinks. We got dressed together, did our makeup, and called ubers after our Irish goodbyes.

When the pandemic hit, like everyone, we went through ups and downs, tears, nervous laughs, periods of distance, and moments of togetherness. And through it all, I think I've learned even more about them.

-Ryan is always inspired, even in his darkest moments, he is ready to channel himself into beautiful music and words that speak to my heart through the bedroom walls.

-Monica can go from grumbling with me about injustice on the large scale to writing grants that directly help vulnerable people in our city with care and thought for their needs as individuals without batting a perfectly lined lash.

-Ryan is a creature of habit, and I've witnessed his coincidentally meditative practices in all that he does, from making his smoothies, to playing Baseball on the Switch, to going on daily walks that seem to refresh him every time he returns.

-Monica loves to be comfy and warm and surrounded by the softest fabrics, but will throw all that comfort away to be there for a person (me or another of her many gays) in need, and always does it with so much love and candor.

-Ryan is an empath in the truest sense, feeling the minute vibrations of this planet of crying people to their slightest degree, and instead of running, he keeps listening, learning, and inviting others to feel and hear more deeply.

-Monica, like her mother raised her, always checks in on me when I'm quiet, always makes sure I'm eating when I'm sad, and has taught me the importance of investing time in myself and in my own happiness without guilt, despite my mental roadblocks

I've been sitting on this beautiful art for a bit. I commissioned this to motivate myself to get back into drag performance, as a kind of singular mood board for my Persona. Thank you so much to @yasmeenaart for collaborating and helping me create this image of myself in my "final form" with all the little details. Please check out her art, she's equal parts talent and heart.

Since I commissioned this, I've come across more and more inspiring images, some I've seen before, and some I'm seeing for the first time, and all of it is fueling my creative spirit to keep creating in the black hole we live in.
