On October 16, 2026, we commemorate the 15th anniversary of the dedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The idea began in 1983 with brothers of Iota Upsilon Lambda Chapter (@iul1906). Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. led the effort to bring that vision to life, honoring our Brother, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with a lasting place on the National Mall.

The Brothers of Gamma Iota Lambda Chapter proudly celebrate this milestone and the vision, persistence, and collective effort that made it possible.

As we reflect on these 15 years, we reaffirm our commitment to carrying Dr. King’s legacy forward through service, advocacy, and action. His vision calls us to keep working toward a more just world. by @nyacoa1906

New faces. Familiar faces. A shared commitment to what comes next.

This past Saturday at Brooklyn College, the Brooklyn Alphas welcomed our returning Alpha Academy students and introduced new students to the program.

Special thanks to Justin Clarke, founder of The Ivy in Color (@theivyincolor), for sharing valuable guidance on preparing for college. From planning high school courses and getting involved in extracurriculars to telling their stories through meaningful experiences, students learned that preparation starts early and colleges consider the whole picture.

We’re excited for another year of mentorship, growth, and community!

We are proud to announce that Alpha Chapter has been recognized as Chapter of the Year by the New York Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. We also celebrate Bro. Jeremy Henderson (A-SP24-1), who has been named College Brother of the Year.

These accomplishments would not be possible without the guidance and unwavering support of our incredible campus advisor, Bro. Gavin Mosley, who has concurrently been named Alumni Brother of the Year. Bro. Mosley’s dedication to Alpha Chapter and continued investment in the development of our brothers have played an invaluable role in helping us uphold the standard of our dear fraternity.

These honors reflect Alpha Chapter’s continued commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, and brotherhood, while recognizing the brothers whose work continues to advance the Aims of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Harlem, thank you. 🖤💛
We’re grateful to NYACOA for giving The D9Network the opportunity to share with the Brotherhood during the 37th NYACOA Convention.

And Sean-Reed opened with something that gets right to the heart of why we're building this:

“My goal here is to be a part of the solution and not just complain about how we're not doing what we should be.”

Because supporting one another sounds simple.

But turning that intention into a habit takes something more.

Sean gave the room a simple example: if two restaurants are across the street from each other and one belongs to someone in your community, where are you going?

Now apply that question to everything else.

The accountant. The attorney. The bookstore. The daycare. The contractor. The business you haven't discovered yet.

The businesses are already out there.

Our job is to make it easier for us to find each other.

Thank you to NYACOA and the Brothers who welcomed us, listened, asked questions, scanned the QR code, and took the time to learn what The D9Network is building.

And a special thank you to the Eta and Alpha Gamma Lambda Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for hosting this year's convention in Harlem.

We're grateful for the opportunity to be in the room and continue this conversation.

Now let's keep building. 🖤💛

The first annual NYACOA Basketball Tournament trophy!

As much as it pains me to say this, as the Commissioner of the 2026 NYACOA Basketball Tournament, I am obliged to uphold the law with this announcement.

Please join me in congratulating the winners of the 2026 NYACOA Basketball Tournament, the team and men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. They won the inaugural Commissioner's trophy. Congratulations to team Nupe for their excellent play. Thanks to all of the teams for their participation in an amazing event!

We'd also like to thank Mindy and my alma mater, St. Charles Borromeo School. Harlem N.Y. for allowing us to pivot and hold the game in the gymnasium.

Please join me in thanking the sponsors of this year's NYACOA Conference for support of all of this week's activities, including:

Wellcare
Resorts World Casino
Waymo
Destination Tomorrow
St. Barnabas Health System
NYS Secretary of State Office
NYS Department of Labor
The Cameo Organization

As one of my farewell gifts, the Brothers presented me with a basketball signed by every Alpha in attendance. Putting this in the trophy case. So thankful.

The Basketball tournament was nothing short of amazing. by @nyacoa1906

D9Network is heading to Harlem! 🗽🖤💛

The 37th NYACOA Convention is taking over Harlem from September 26 through October 4, and The D9Network is excited to be part of it.

Hosted by the Eta and Alpha Gamma Lambda Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., this year’s convention brings “The Home of Black Excellence” to Harlem for a week of Brotherhood, leadership, service, community, and connection.

And beginning October 2, Sean-Reed McGee will be there representing The D9Network. 👋🏾

For us, being present at gatherings like this is about more than showing up.

It’s about meeting the people behind the businesses, reconnecting with members of our community, hearing what they’re building, and creating more opportunities for people across the Divine Nine to find and support one another.

The convention also has a full lineup of programming throughout the week, including community health initiatives, business sessions, Brotherhood events, and even a live performance by CAMEO.

So, D9 family, if you’ll be in Harlem for NYACOA, come find Sean and say hello! 👀

Tell him what you’re building. Tell him about your business. And if you haven’t heard about The D9Network yet, this is the perfect time to ask.

This past weekend, five Brooklyn Alpha Academy students spent their Sunday immersed in Harlem’s art and history.

We started at the newly reopened @studiomuseum, where museum staff gave us a dedicated tour. The students learned about works by Alexandre Arrechea and Nick Cave, then made their own art inspired by Nina Chanel Abney’s bold, colorful pieces.

We ended the day on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd, where our mentees marched alongside the NYACOA Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in the African American Day Parade.

Seeing young people connect with culture, creativity, and community in one day is what this work is all about.

GIL will be accepting 2026/2027 Alpha Academy applications until Friday, September 25th - the link to apply is available in our bio.
