🎹 A MUSICAL JOURNEY THROUGH AFRICAN AND DIASPORA HERITAGE! ✨
Last Thursday, Ghanaian-born pianist Dr. William Chapman Nyaho delivered a captivating performance at the 5th Cayman Piano Festival, celebrating the richness and diversity of music by composers of African descent.

The programme featured works by Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Tania León, Robert Kwami and Eleanor Alberga, among others, bringing together powerful spirituals, vibrant rhythms and distinctive musical traditions.
A highlight was Eleanor Alberga’s 3-Day Mix, performed by Nyaho alongside his piano duo partner, CayMusicA's Artistic Director, Glen Inanga. Inspired by the Jamaican folk song Mango Walk, the piece delighted with its playful rhythms and lively musical interplay.

The evening concluded with the infectious rhythmic energy of León’s Tumbao and Kwami’s January Dance, showcasing how the piano can evoke the pulse and complexity of an entire percussion ensemble.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. William Chapman Nyaho, Glen Inanga and everyone who joined us for this memorable celebration of music, culture and heritage!

My heart is full after an inspiring visit to Susquehanna University! Immense thanks to Dr. Naomi Niskala for the invitation to share the music and mission I love.
It was an honor to perform a recital of composers of African descent and join the brilliant discussions in the Power & Privilege and Miranda’s Hamilton courses. I was so impressed by the Symposium posters—researching everything from Undine Smith Moore to orchestra gender equity—and the “Expanding the Canon” student recital was a powerful finale.
Wonderful to reconnect with VP Aaron Martin, too! Watching these students embrace this repertoire was heart-warming!
