After school, they go home to help their grandmothers.
But Nyaka never leaves their side. 🧡

Meet Sneha Harsh, our Advancement & Fundraising Co-ordinator. After talking with students and grandmothers in the field, she saw what real holistic care looks like:

✅ Stopping Sexual & Gender-Based Violence
✅ Health support every step of the way
✅ A circle of care — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

From classroom to homestead, Nyaka is always there.

📹 Watch Sneha’s mini documentary🙏 Will you stand with us?
👉 Donate to support vulnerable students and grandmothers.

Ali Kuemmer & Paul Paciello
Last year Ali cheered from the sidelines as her husband, Ray, ran for Nyaka. This year she’s lacing up herself, alongside her stepfather Paul, former Board Chair of Meals on Wheels of Rockland County in New Jersey. Through her work with TEEEM, Ali also guides students to support Nyaka. Thank you both for running and fundraising for the children and grandmothers of Uganda!
Team Nyaka is back! 27 incredible runners have spent months training and fundraising for the children of Uganda. With three weeks to go, they’ve already broken Team Nyaka’s fundraising records, and they’re ready for a historic weekend celebrating 50 years of the TCS NYC Marathon’s run through all five boroughs.
On race day, students, grandmothers, Nyaka staff, and our community in Uganda will run a marathon and fun run of their own, in solidarity with our runners in New York.
To mark our 25th anniversary, founder and CEO Twesigye Jackson Kaguri is nearly finished with his 250-day walking challenge. He’s fundraising alongside our runners and inviting all of us to take on a challenge of our own.

She didn’t get the chance to finish school, but she never stopped believing in the power of education.

Kyarisima Peace, a Nyaka Mukaaka, once dreamed of continuing her education beyond Primary Seven. But her parents had other plans. She was taken out of school and remained at home, spending her days doing domestic work.

She later married and, after two years of waiting, welcomed her first daughter. Four more children followed. But life took an unexpected turn when her husband left home and married another woman, leaving Peace to raise her children as a single mother. With limited opportunities and many responsibilities, life was far from easy.

Today, Peace carries the weight of those experiences with remarkable strength. Her dream may have been interrupted, but she refuses to let the same happen to her grandchildren.

Through rearing pigs, she is working to create an income that can help provide them with the education and opportunities she was denied.

Her story reminds us that growing older is not about looking back at what was lost it is also about the wisdom, resilience, and hope we carry forward for the generations that come after us.

Peace is investing in a future she once dreamed of for herself, so her grandchildren can have the chance to dream, learn, and thrive. by @nyakaglobal

This World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate Teacher Ruth Katusiime, a Primary One teacher of Literacy I, Literacy II, and Mathematics at Kutamba Primary School, and all the teachers who dedicate their lives to shaping the next generation. For Katusiime, one of the greatest joys of teaching is seeing learners she has guided grow into self-employed individuals, professionals with good jobs, and people building families of their own. She is grateful to Nyaka for creating a conducive environment where she can mentor and nurture the younger generation. As we reflect on this year’s theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” she encourages the government to invest more in teachers, including improving their pay and living conditions, so they can teach effectively and continue giving their best to every learner. Today, we stand with Katusiime and teachers everywhere. Thank you for shaping futures. #wearenyaka by @nyakaglobal

Healthcare should be within reach of everyone, especially the women and grandmothers who have spent years caring for their families and communities.
In April 2026, Nyaka partnered with Kambuga Hospital to conduct a medical camp for women and grandmothers aged 50 and above in Kanungu District.
What happened?
The medical camp brought essential healthcare services closer to women and grandmothers who faced health challenges, including hypertension, cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, arthritis and joint pain, vision impairment, cataracts, malnutrition, chronic pain, and other age-related illnesses.
When?
The medical camp was conducted from 22nd to 30th September 2026, with a target of reaching at least 5,000 women.
Where?
The camp was held in two selected sub-counties within Kanungu District, where Nyaka’s grandmother’s population is concentrated.
Why?
Many grandmothers in some of these communities face barriers such as transportation costs, mobility challenges, and limited access to health facilities. As a result, some health conditions go untreated, affecting their quality of life and their ability to continue caring for their grandchildren.
By bringing healthcare closer to these communities, the medical camp helped address some of these barriers and supported the health and well-being of the women and grandmothers who had dedicated so much of their lives to caring for others. by @nyakaglobal
