Thank you very much for visiting our booth last weekend at TLC's homecoming event, learning about and supporting our Deaf education efforts in Ethiopia and Uganda!

With your support, we've raised nearly $600 for Visions Academy School for the Deaf in Hawassa, Ethiopia.

Yesterday, I gave a power talk to university students, sponsored by the @nyakaglobal.

We discussed mental health strategies for young university women, specifically focusing on the transition into employment and the toll the demands of adulthood can take on our well-being.

I shared my own experiences searching for jobs, building partnerships, and securing clients, offering insights on how they can mentally prepare for the current realities of youth unemployment.

It’s always a pleasure to meet a promising group of young women who have made a conscious decision to seek knowledge and better opportunities.

THE JOY OF TEAM WORK AND COLLABORATIONS

Nyaka has newly joined us as partners in our grandmother programmes; they were able to be with us for four days and had 7 focus group discussions (FGDs) with different existing groups, and in each session Douglas (from Nyaka) was able to interact wholeheartedly with the grandmothers and left with a new title of Jajja Mwami (Grandpa).

Nyaka will be helping us build the grandmothers' economic empowerment systems by providing groups with a revolving fund to support starting and boosting income-generating activities and help train them in business skills and loan management and lead our grandmothers onto a path of great financial literacy and help, among other things.

This Moment Counts

Oh, what a night! What a celebration!

On 7th August, we gathered to celebrate @nyakaglobal at 25 and to launch @twejaka’s third book, Legacy for My Village.

But 25 years is bigger than one night. It deserves a season of looking back, taking stock, giving thanks and celebrating just how far Nyaka has come.

In the speech I gave as we launched Legacy for My Village, I tried to break down the magnitude of 25 years:

25 years.
300 months.
More than 9,000 days.
More than 219,000 hours.
More than 13 million minutes.
Nearly 789 million seconds.
More than 920 million heartbeats.

And even those numbers barely begin to tell the story.

They don’t count the prayers prayed, the partnerships forged, the generosity shared, or the many miles Jackson, the children and the grandmothers have run and walked in marathons over the years.

And they certainly cannot measure the impact, direct and indirect, of lives changed, families strengthened, opportunities created and generations transformed.

Some things simply cannot be counted.

Congratulations, Nyaka!

Bask in 25. Celebrate it. Savour it. Take the whole year if you must! Twenty-five years of keeping a promise deserves more than one night.

Here’s to the first 25, and to all that the next 25 will make possible.

🎉 What a Month! Here's What You Made Possible This July

As July comes to a close, we're taking a moment to celebrate something truly extraordinary, you.

To our incredible community of donors, partners, volunteers and champions: thank you. Your belief in children and families is creating real, lasting change across Uganda.

Because of your generosity this month, together we were able to:

❤️ Support families facing crisis with emergency nutrition and medical care, helping prevent unnecessary family separation.

🌱 Equip parents and caregivers with sustainable livelihood skills through our community hubs, building stronger, more resilient families.

🏡 Help keep children where they belong, in safe, loving family homes, not institutions.

Behind every social work visit, every community training session, every family strengthened and every child supported is someone who chose to stand with us. That someone is you.

Together, we are proving that a future where every child grows up in a loving family, and where orphanages are no longer needed, is not just possible. It is already being built.

To our corporate partners, monthly donors, volunteers and everyone who walks this journey with us: thank you for an incredible July. Let's carry this momentum into August and continue transforming lives, one child, one family and one community at a time.

Together, we are changing the story of childhood.

Faith leaders: Part of the solution... or part of the problem?

We teamed up with Imago Dei Fund, @nyakaglobal and IFAGE and hosted a powerful session exploring how faith can actually be a massive driver for gender equality @segalfoundation #TheNextBeat Summit earlier this week.💪

The consensus?

When faith leaders are engaged the right way, they become incredible champions for women and girls in our communities. 🤝

But during our discussion, one deep question popped up that made everyone stop and think:

👉 WHAT IS FAITH? 👈

Is it a mindset? A action? A community anchor? A gut feeling?

We want to know YOUR take!

Drop your 1-sentence definition of faith in the comments below! 👇💬

For years, the grandmothers of Muyira Parish carried one of the heaviest responsibilities in their community largely alone, raising grandchildren with nowhere else to go, often in isolation, with little income and no access to financial services.

Recognising their vital role in protecting children, Child's i Foundation began working alongside them. That partnership became the Muyira Grandmother Group.

Over three years, the intervention started with knowledge: training in financial literacy, business management, and how to run a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA), plus a revolving fund to launch income generating activities.

The grandmothers moved fast. As a collective, they started a cake making business. Individually, they took up agriculture, livestock, and household goods production. Through group saving and internal lending, members could grow their businesses, handle emergencies, and pay school fees, all without outside creditors or aid.

Today, the group's enterprises cover their own administrative costs, replenish their revolving fund, and fund child protection activities; self-sustained, not externally funded.

Just as powerful is what has changed for the grandmothers themselves. They now manage their own finances, make strategic business decisions, and plan for the future with a confidence that simply wasn't possible before.

This is proof that when communities are given the right skills, resources, and opportunities, they don't just recover; they become the drivers of their own lasting change. Sustainable child protection can be built from within.

Through our relaunched campaign #StrongerWithYou, we're raising £50,000 over the next few weeks to stand alongside more families before crisis strikes, so more children can remain where they belong: in a family.
