2 x 2nd grade classes from PS 889 explored Plumb Beach this morning, where they searched for seashells and learned about the water in our city!

Students found Horseshoe Crabs, Blue Crabs, Moonsnails, Whelks, and more! Then, they learned that one reason these animals are able to thrive here is because we clean our waste water before returning it to the ocean.

A big thank you to @ritajosephnyc for supporting H2O field trips!

4 x Eighth grade classes from JHS 118 joined us at Orchard Beach for a field trip to remember! 🌊🌳

For many students, this was their first time at the beach and in the forest, so they got to work exploring the beach and salt marsh—spotting an Egret, Blue Crabs, Spider Crabs, Fiddler crabs, and even a sand dollar along the way!

Huge shout out to Council Member Oswald Feliz for connecting NYC students with their natural world. 💙

A beautiful sunny day at High Bridge Park with middle schoolers from the Manhattan School for Children where we learned about New York’s water system!

Students explored the 178-year-old High Bridge while learning about its history. Then, they put on their engineering hats 👷🏽👷🏾‍♀️ and tried their hand at bringing water from upstate reservoirs to our thirsty city by building a model aqueduct 🚰💧

2 x 5th grade classes from the AmPark Neighborhood School explored the Jerome Park Reservoir this morning for a lesson about the NYC Water System.

Students learned that our drinking water comes from large reservoirs in upstate New York and is transported to the city through aqueducts. They then built their own model aqueducts to understand how gravity moves water through the system.

Thank you to @ericdinowitznyc for supporting H2O education.

“I love hiking!” 🌳💧🦆

3 x 3rd grade classes from PS 115 discovered the wonders of nature while exploring the woods in Canarsie Park this morning.

Students learned that forests act as a natural filter that cleans our water, making it safe to drink. Because nature takes care of us in this way, it is important that we take care of nature!

2 x 3rd grade classes from PS 115 visited Canarsie Park this morning for a lesson about the NYC water system. 💧

These adventurous students started the day by playing tree races, where they observed the leaves and seeds of many different trees, including Swamp White Oak, Honey Locust, and Hackberry. They learned that these trees and others act as a natural filter for our drinking water, keeping it clean. 🌳

An exciting day at the Central Park Reservoir with 2nd grade engineers from PS 87!

Students explored the trees around the reservoir, finding Turkey Oaks, Ginkgos, and Cherries. Then they turned their attention to the water, where they learned about the engineers who build and maintain our city’s water supply. They finished the trip by becoming engineers and building their very own model aqueducts!

A huge thank you to Council Member @galeabrewer for connecting NYC students to their water system!

It was a crisp September morning at the Central Park Reservoir, where 2 x 5th grade classes from DREAM Charter School were busy learning about New York City’s water system.

Students observed many different animals in the park, including a large flock of seagulls, wood ducks swimming in the reservoir, and a squirrel eating an acorn. They learned that parks and forests not only provide a home for these animals, but also help to keep our drinking water clean!

Not only is it the first day of fall, it’s the first day of H2O field trips for the school year! 🍂🍁

Today, 4 x 5th grade classes from DREAM Charter School explored the Central Park Reservoir.

Students learned that our drinking water comes from large reservoirs upstate and is brought to the city through aqueducts by gravity. They then competed in the Aqueduct Challenge to build their own models aqueducts!

Thank you to @cm_encarnacion for supporting H2O education.
